Real Madrid are looking to boost their midfield and think Stade Rennes’ 17-year-old Eduardo Camavinga is the perfect signing.
According to a report from Transfermarketweb.com, Rennes’ defensive midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is on the radar of Real Madrid as Zinedine Zidane looks to add a backup for Casemiro.
Camavinga has taken the Ligue 1 by storm this season, producing world class performances time and time again. The 17-year-old has been with the club’s academy since 2013 and was promoted to the Rennes’ first-team towards the end of the last season.
Having featured 7 times last season, Camavinga has become a regular for the club this term and has taken part in 23 games of the 26 Rennes have played in the league. He has also regularly played in the Coupe De France, where Rennes have reached in the semi final. Born in Angola, the midfielder moved to France at a very young age and has been playing for the national team’s youth sides.
Real Madrid have been looking for a solid backup for Casemiro for a while now, but have settled for playing Toni Kroos, Luka Modric or Federico Valverde as a makeshift in that role. The Brazilian has been nothing short of immense for Zidane’s team, and seems undroppable at the moment.
And Camavinga, based on the evidence of his performances this term, could be a great backup for Casemiro. The youngster first came to the spotlight after putting in a tremendous shift agaisnt PSG on the second matchday of Ligue 1 keeping the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Julian Draxler and Angel Di Maria out. He also assisted the winning goal of the game.
Turning 18 in November, Camavinga already carries a hefty price tag, and there might even be a bidding war to get the midfielder. Real Madrid’s idea is to jump ahead of the auction with a €60 million bid to secure his services. A bid of that amount would not only seal the deal for Rennes, but it would also put off AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund who are also looking at Camavinga.
Camavinga is an exceptional talent; he can tackle well, has great positioning sense and carries an eye for a long ball. His way of playing closely resembles Manchester City’s Fernandinho, except Camavinga is quite quicker compared to him.
That said, he would be a great signing for any top club looking for a long-term deal. €60 million may sound like a lot for a 17-year-old, but if it works out, it could very well turn out to be a great bargain. Real Madrid should get a deal in place before more clubs decide to pounce on signing Camavinga.
