Manchester United have been advised to make a move for former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey in the summer window by ex-Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino.
In his column for The Times, former footballer Tony Cascarino has claimed that ex-Arsenal superstar Aaron Ramsey, who has been struggling for game time at Juventus, would be the ideal signing for Manchester United in the upcoming transfer window.
Ramsey joined Juventus in the last summer window on a free transfer after his contract at Arsenal expired. However, the Welshman’s stint in Italy hasn’t been off to the most auspicious of starts. The midfielder, having begun brightly, succumbed to an injury early in the season and has since struggled to carve his way back into Maurizio Sarri’s team.
The 29-year-old has just started eight matches across all competitions for the Bianconeri, scoring and assisting one goal apiece. This has led to speculations over his future with the Serie A champions, with reports claiming that Juventus are willing to cash in on him and make a profit next summer.
And Cascarino has insisted that Manchester United should look to capitalize on the situation and sign Ramsey when the transfer window opens. The 57-year-old wrote in his column: “When a club buys a player on a free transfer they can afford to pay huge wages, safe in the knowledge that if it doesn’t work out the player can be sold early and the club should recoup the signing-on fee.
“And I think that’s what we will see with Aaron Ramsey. Ramsey played in Juventus’ defeat away to Verona on Saturday but it was fairly typical of his first season in Italy as he came on as a substitute and didn’t have an impact on the game. I can see the former Arsenal man back in the Premier League next season.
“Reports linking him to Manchester United make a lot of sense as he is the sort of player they need — a proven midfielder with goalscoring pedigree and plenty of Premier League experience. I could see him not costing too much, with Juventus possibly settling for £20 million as that would get them most of their outlay back.”
It is no secret that Manchester United wanted to sign Ramsey from his boyhood club Cardiff City, but were beaten to the punch by Arsenal. There had been some interest from the Red Devils in the 29-year-old last summer as well, but ultimately he decided to join Juventus.
Now that Ramsey could potentially be on his way out of Italy, Manchester United could stand to gain a lot from signing him. The Red Devils have had problems in the midfield department throughout the season and while Bruno Fernandes arrived in January, United are still staring at the prospect of losing midfield maverick Paul Pogba in the summer.
Should that come to happen, Ramsey would prove to be a ideal signing for Manchester United, given his experience in England coupled with his ability to score and create goals. The 29-year-old is on a £400,000-a-week contract with Juventus that runs till 2023 and it remains to be seen if the Bianconeri decide to cash in on him in the summer.
