Manchester United are reportedly open to the idea of putting up more than £30 million in their bid to sign Birmingham City prodigy Jude Bellingham.

The Jude Bellingham Manchester United story just keeps getting crazier. According to Sky Sports, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team is now prepared to shell out more than £30 million to sign the Birmingham City teenager, who is also drawing interest from Arsenal and other elite European clubs.

The numbers behind the deal just keep on skyrocketing. The talks started with rumours of a potential £15 million tag. Sky then reported of Manchester United’s willingness to go up to £25 million and it seems to have now surpassed even the absurd boundaries of £30 million for a 16-year-old midfielder.

Manchester United’s pursuit of Jude Bellingham is not a well-kept secret. Neither is the fact that the 16-year-old midfielder is on the radar of almost every top European club. Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Dortmund and Liverpool are all admirers of the Birmingham City star’s talent.

All of 16, Bellingham is now a well-established member of the first-team setup at Birmingham City. In fact, barring the first four games of the club’s 2019-20 Championship campaign, the 16-year-old has played every league match, with 4 goals and an assist a decent enough return from central midfield.

But, more than the number of appearances, it is the variety of the positions he has played in that is blinding for a 16-year-old. Bellingham has played every position possible in outfield apart from defence. This very statistic shows just how good of a talent the Birmingham City star is.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is quietly building a team for the future and Bellingham might be the ideal recruit for his setup. Solskjaer relies on counters and the pace of the attack. To have a player of Bellingham’s calibre, who can play every position will allow the manager set up his team with the flexibility he so desires.

Upwards of £30 million might be crazy for a 16-year-old. But, that’s just how crazy of a talent Jude Bellingham is being billed as. Manchester United already have a lot of young talents in their ranks, the latest recruit being Hannibal Mejbri. If Manchester United can get this over the line and beat other elite European clubs, their youth options will be frightening and their future, bright.
