Liverpool have reportedly sent their representatives for another round of scouting as they consider a move for Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir.
As per the report from The Mirror, Liverpool seem to be stepping up their interest in Ugurcan Cakir. The Trabzonspor goalkeeper has been scouted multiple times and the Reds’ scouts were on another scouting mission as they make up their mind about pursuing the Turkish international.
Liverpool have one of the best goalkeepers in the world right now in the form of Alisson Becker. The Reds’ keeper became the first one to win the Yachine Trophy, which can considered as a trophy a-la Ballon D’or, but just for goalkeepers. But, there has always been a dearth of options in goal beyond Alisson.
Liverpool brought in Adrian during the summer on a free transfer. The Spaniard has been up to the task whenever called upon. But, Liverpool are looking to bring in a young goalkeeper who can develop at Anfield and be the new number 2 perhaps in due time.
Ugurcan Cakir was handed his senior bow for Turkey in 2019 itself and the 23-year-old has been impressive at club level, representing Trabzonspor in the Turkish domestic circuit. Easily the first-choice at the Turkish club, Cakir has earned plaudits for his displays, despite not having the best of records in terms of the games to clean sheets ratio.
The report states that Juventus are also an interested party for Cakir, with The Mirror crediting Turkish publication Star for the report. Juventus have Wojciech Szczesny as their first-choice currently. Mattia Perin is also an option while the Italian giants also brought back Gianluigi Buffon from PSG on a free transfer to beef up their options.
But, Perin was not registered for the Champions League group stage and could be looking for a way out of Juventus. Buffon, on the other hand, is already 41 and is likely to go into the coaching route after the end of the season, leaving Juventus potentially light in the position.
Cakir is a 23-year-old goalkeeper with experience in Europe and now at the international level as well. There is interest from the European bigwigs in his services and it will be interesting to see what the next step is in his footballing career.
