Mohamed Elneny could be set for a departure from Arsenal amid interest from several clubs including Bordeaux from Ligue 1.

Arsenal could be set for some swift departures as the club looks to offload some of their unwanted stars. Many candidates are expected to leave the Emirates before the European transfer window deadline, and one of them is Mohamed Elneny. According to Foot Mercato, Ligue 1 side Bordeaux are looking to crack a deal with Arsenal as they want to recruit the Egyptian.

Bordeaux have already recruited former Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny this summer after the centre-back forced a move away from the Gunners. The Ligue 1 side are already making plans to reunite Koscielny with his former teammate Elneny, although details of what they might offer for the Egyptian still unclear.

Arsenal reportedly want £10 million for Elneny as manager Unai Emery does not see a future for the midfielder at Arsenal. In fact, in a recent press conference, Emery clearly stated the Egyptian was free to leave the club to a side that would make a suitable offer. Arsenal have been reportedly looking to sell Elneny and defender Shkodran Mustafi, although they haven’t made any progress on that front.

27-year-old Elneny has attracted plenty of interest from clubs across Europe. Galatasaray were reportedly close to signing him. However, their pursuit has since gone cold, similar to the interest from Turkish rivals Besiktas who showed were also linked early in the summer. Premier League side West Ham United were also showing an interest in recruiting the midfielder, but the English deadline has since passed.

However, with the European deadline still some way far, Arsenal are hoping to trim the squad and sell Elneny. Additionally, the arrival of Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid has ensured Elneny will receive far less playing time than last season. In 2018-19, the Egyptian midfielder made only 17 appearances in all competitions, and now with the emergence of Joe Willock, he may not even play that much.

Elneny has age on his side and an extended contract at Arsenal which only expires in 2022. Hence, Arsenal will look for maximum value from interested teams, including Bordeaux. The French side may seek to negotiate what Arsenal initially ask for Elneny, but the Gunners are understandably looking to take a firm stance on their valuation.

Bordeaux are looking to progress in Ligue 1 this season, and their signing of Koscielny is a statement of intent. Signing Elneny would only strengthen their chances in the league this season, and they are keen to recruit the Egyptian as soon as possible. As for Elneny, it could be an excellent chance to resurrect his career after being out of favour, but he is likely to wait until the end for other offers to arrive.
