Barcelona are reportedly in talks with RB Salzburg to land Gideon Mensah on a loan move, with the youngster set to be a part of the B squad.
According to Spanish publication Sport, Barcelona are looking to bring in a temporary solution for the left-back area for the B squad, with the club prepared to let Juan Miranda go out on loan. Red Bull Salzburg youngster Gideon Mensah is on their radar, as per the reports.
Barcelona are reportedly in talks with RB Salzburg over a loan deal for Mensah and are looking to bring Mensah in on a temporary basis with an option to buy, with the club looking at numerous options regarding the future of the Ghanian. The talks though, are yet to result in a definitive agreement.
The need rises as a result of the future of Juan Miranda at Barcelona. The 19-year-old saw himself fall down the pecking order with the arrival of Junior Firpo from Real Betis. Instead of playing another season with the B squad at Barcelona, the Spaniard is tipped to join Marseille on loan, amid interest from other top clubs like Schalke and Juventus.

Mensah is yet to make his competitive senior debut for RB Salzburg, having been promoted to the senior squad of the Austrian giants from second division side FC Liefering. The 21-year-old isn’t particularly tall but is technically adept at playing as a modern left-back, which is how Barcelona operate all across their age groups.
To add to the promise, Mensah was part of the RB Salzburg squad that won the UEFA Youth League in the 2016-17 season.
The player is being targeted by Barcelona to fill the void that will be created by Juan Miranda in the Barcelona B squad. The only other option available for the left-back area is Ignasi Vilarrasa, who is out with an injury for an indefinite period.
Thus, Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta is in need of a left-back before the start of their new season. The option to make the move permanent is something Barcelona tend to do to secure their option of buying the player if he manages to impress during the loan period. A deal that is likely to be completed without much fuss, once RB Salzburg make up their mind.
