Transfer News: Manchester United ready to banish Alexis Sanchez to the reserves side

Alexis Sanchez’s future at Manchester United looks glum as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ready to banish the Chilean to the reserves if he fails to move abroad.

Manchester United might have got off to a flying start in the Premier League, but they still have many issues to resolve from within the team. The future of Alexis Sanchez is one of them as United are keen to offload the attacker before the European transfer window shuts. According to The Sun, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will banish the Chilean to the reserves if he fails to move abroad.

Sanchez joined Manchester United from Arsenal in a swap deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan move in the opposite direction. The highly-publicized move came with much fanfare and a bizarre announcement video in which Sanchez was seen playing the piano. Much like a maestro, the Chilean was expected to play with style and substance but has since failed to live up to it at Old Trafford.

Sanchez has made a total of 45 appearances in 18 months at United scoring five goals in all competition. United would have allowed more time to Sanchez to get his footing, but his mammoth £505,000-a-week salary is burning a hole in their pockets.

Manager Solskjaer is determined for the club to get rid of Sanchez at the earliest as he does not consider him part of his first-team setup. Sanchez’s regular playing time came under former boss Jose Mourinho, while Solskjaer hasn’t used him as frequently since taking over.

As United are desperately trying to find buyers for Sanchez, there has been minimal interest in the forward. The issue is his wage as nobody would be willing to pay that kind of weekly sum to the 30-year-old. Back when the transfer window opened, United were willing to pay nearly half his salary if a side is willing to take on the rest.

Juventus and Inter Milan had shown mild interest early on in the window, but have since signed a host of other stars, meaning a move to either of those clubs is no longer on the cards. AS Roma are the most recent side interested in taking Sanchez, but again the wages are the major stumbling block. The idea is likely of a loan deal, with Manchester United paying a significant chunk of his salary.

Solskjaer would be urging his club to make a deal with potential suitors in the coming days as he has no plans to include Sanchez during the season. Solksjaer has decided to make Sanchez train with the reserves if a deal cannot be agreed with a side abroad. How the Chilean will take the news is the big question, as he might be hoping to prove his worth.

A loan deal for Sanchez with shared wages will ensure United cut their losses in a significant way. In the case they fail to offload the Chilean, they will have to pay nearly £9 million of his salary until they try again to find a suitor in January. Overall, it remains to be seen if there is a future for Sanchez at Manchester United, as Old Trafford has become a ‘theatre of nightmares’ for him.
