Transfer News: Manchester United had €25 million bid for Dani Olmo rejected

Manchester United reportedly had a €25 million bid rejected for Spanish playmaker Dani Olmo who plays for Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb.

As per a report from Croatian publication Sportske Novosti Premier League heavyweights Manchester United made a late attempt to sign Spanish midfielder Dani Olmo from Dinamo Zagreb. But, their offer of €25 million was rejected by the Croatian giants.

Olmo came through the youth ranks at Barcelona before departing for Dinamo Zagreb in the summer of 2014. The 21-year-old made his first-team debut for the Croatian outfit in February 2015 and has till date, notched up 105 appearances for the club, scoring 29 goals and assisting 23 more, winning four league titles in the process.

Last season saw the Spaniard feature 44 times across all competitions for Dinamo, bagging 12 goals and setting up 9 more. Olmo then went on to play a starring role for the Spain U-21 side as they lifted the UEFA U-21 European Championship this summer. The midfielder has followed it up with a strong start to the 2019-20 season, already scoring 3 in 3 matches for his club.

Olmo’s rise in stature over the past year has seen him register on the radars of a number of clubs, including Manchester United. Reports earlier this summer indicated that the 20-time English champions had identified the 21-year-old midfielder as a possible transfer target as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sought to boost his midfield options.

It was an open secret that Manchester United were actively looking for a new creative midfielder to add to their ranks ahead of the new season. The Red Devils are increasingly dependent on Paul Pogba to provide the creativity from midfield and Solskjaer was keen on addressing that issue with a new addition.

For the longest time, it looked like Manchester United would sign Portuguese international Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon, however, the deal failed to materialize. And as per the report from Sportske Novosti, the Mancunians made a late attempt to recruit Dani Olmo, possibly as an alternative for the Sporting captain.

The report adds that Manchester United made an offer of €25 million for the 21-year-old midfielder, but Dinamo Zagreb knocked it back. The Red Devils are not the only team to have been rejected by the Croatians as fellow Premier League outfit Everton and German champions Bayern Munich also had their offers for Olmo turned down.

Dinamo are keen on holding on to Olmo and have put forth a new contract offer, which the player’s camp have refused to sign. While Manchester United may have failed to sign the midfielder, he could still be on the move before the end of the month, with reports claiming there has been interest in him from Real Madrid and Barcelona.
