Manchester United are reportedly working on a deal to sign Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen from Tottenham before the British transfer window slams shut.
Daily Mail speculate that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has now shifted his attention to Christian Eriksen now. The British transfer window ends on Thursday and the report states that Manchester United are working to complete a deal for Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen before the window slams shut.
The report iterates that Manchester United could offer £65 million for Eriksen, half of Daniel Levy’s original quotation. The reason for this is chalked down to the fact that the Danish playmaker has only one year left on his Tottenham contract. To add to it, there are reports that claim the likes of Juventus and Atletico Madrid are looking to come in with offers of £50 million for Eriksen.
Christian Eriksen reportedly had his heart set on a move to Real Madrid, who were one of the first clubs to be linked with the Tottenham star. Los Blancos though, ended up signing only one of the two Premier League stars they were linked with – Eden Hazard.
According to recent updates, Real Madrid are now prioritising deals for Donny Van de Beek and Paul Pogba. This leaves Eriksen in a limbo of sorts, along with Tottenham, who fear losing the playmaker for nothing next summer. This is why Manchester United are hopeful of a move for Eriksen.
Solskjaer has been deploying a 4-2-3-1 formation during the pre-season mostly, with only rare instances of a 4-3-3 shape. A number 10 is thus, a priority for Manchester United, especially with the current options – Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata – not inspiring much confidence in their skills, form and consistency.
To add to it, Eriksen’s ability to play out wide could prove to be a solution, should Solskjaer deploy a 4-3-3. Compared to the likes of Paulo Dybala and Bruno Fernandes, Eriksen is a proven quantity in the Premier League and was linked with United back when he was playing for Ajax as well.
It will be interesting to see how Daniel Levy chooses to play these days out. Mauricio Pochettino is visibly miffed at a lack of movement in the transfer window and losing one of the key stars without bringing in quality signings will only add to the Argentine’s ire.
