Manchester United are reportedly poised to complete the signing of teenage sensation Hannibal Mejbri from French outfit AS Monaco on Tuesday.
As per a report from French publication Le Parisien as carried by The Sun, Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing of 16-year-old whizkid Hannibal Mejbri in a £9 million deal from AS Monaco.
Mejbri has been pushing for an exit from the Principality based outfit since January, after his family rowed with the club due to some irregularities in the teenage sensation’s contract. Speaking about the issue, the 16-year-old’s father, former Tunisian international Lofti, said (as quoted by The Sun):
“Something bad happened. For our family, it was very hard to live. It’s a real shock, a trauma. There were mistakes made and, from there, I consider the relationship of trust between the club and our family destroyed.”
Mejbri is contracted with Monaco till the summer of 2021, but his family have been trying to get the deal annulled and secure a new club for the teenager since January. There had been significant interest from a number of clubs, including the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea as per the report.
However, Manchester United seem to have beaten the competition for the signing of Mejbri. The report claims that the 20-time English champions used the presence of Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba to convince the teenager to sign for the club.
Having completed a medical successfully last week, the youngster is set to become a Manchester United player on Tuesday. The Red Devils will be paying Monaco an initial fee of £4.5 million for the midfielder, with another £4.5 million in bonuses.
The deal for Mejbri is set to be completed on Tuesday and the teenage starlet will become Manchester United’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire, who completed a world record £85 million transfer from Leicester City on Monday.
Mejbri is filled with immense potential and considering how manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been promoting youngsters from the academy since his arrival, the 16-year-old could be knocking on the doors of the Manchester United first-team in a year or two.
