Dinamo Zagreb whizkid Dani Olmo has refused to rule out a return to Barcelona while a move to Real Madrid also remains a possibility.
Dani Olmo provided subtle hints about his future after refusing to rule out a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid – as reported by Sport. The Dinamo Zagreb sensation has become one of Europe’s most sought-after players following impressing the onlookers with his performances for the Croatian outfit as well as the Spanish U-21 side.
“Barça is the club I hold a special bond with. It was my home for six years. We’ll see what the future brings. Today, I don’t know if there’s a chance I could go back but, out of respect for other interested sides, I can’t say anything.”, Olmo told COPE during an interview when asked about a potential return to Catalonia, according to Sport.
He also responded to Real Madrid’s interest, claiming, “If that’s a possibility, we’ll see. As of right now, I don’t know if that’s possible or not”. And this will undoubtedly serve as a major boost to both of these Spanish giants, although they could face stiff competition from Atletico Madrid and Manchester United.
Olmo is regarded as one of the brightest talents playing in the Croatian top division, having been involved in 51 goals in just over 100 competitive matches for Dinamo Zagreb. But, what really made him such a sought-after attacker was his performances in the European U-21 Championships earlier this year.
The 21-year-old scored an impressive three goals and provided one assist in four games for the Spain U-21s. He notably scored the winner as Lo Roja sealed a 2-1 win over Germany in the final. He was, however, a member of the Barcelona youth team before eventually leaving La Masia in 2015.
But, a move to either of these two Spanish giants won’t make much sense for the Spaniard if he is to continue his development. Both these teams are going through a transitional phase but are doing everything they can to ease that transition by securing big-money signings from the transfer market.
Even a move to Atletico Madrid could be problematic for Olmo. Los Colchoneros, despite a mass exodus this summer, have notably brought in Joao Felix and are actively looking to strengthen their midfield further and attacking department. Therefore, it would perhaps be wiser for the youngster to remain at Zagreb for at least another season before making a big-money move elsewhere.
