Manchester United centre-back Marcos Rojo is reportedly considering an exit from Old Trafford, amid uncertainties over the extent of his first-team chances.

As per a report from ESPN, Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo is pondering over the possibility of leaving the club in the ongoing transfer window, as he is unsure about the amount of game time that he will be afforded in the upcoming season.

Rojo joined Manchester United from Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon for £16 million in the summer of 2014. The 29-year-old has racked up 114 appearances for the Red Devils till date – 95 of which came in his first three seasons at the club. A combination of injuries and competition for places have seen his game time reduce drastically in the past two years.

Rojo spent majority of the 2018-19 season on the treatment tables and managed to make just six appearances in the entire season. Fit again, the Argentine was given a few opportunities by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during the pre-season so far and the defender has seemingly impressed the Norwegian, as per the report.

However, Solskjaer has as many as six centre-halves at his disposal currently including Rojo with Victor Lindelof, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly and academy product Axel Tuanzebe all in the squad. And everyone seems to be ahead of Rojo in the pecking order at Manchester United.

Moreover, the 20-time English champions are intently pursuing the signing of Leicester City star Harry Maguire. The England international is a top target for Manchester United and they are optimistic about signing the centre-back, which would push Rojo further down the order.

Hence, the 29-year-old Argentine international is considering the possibility of leaving Old Trafford this summer in search of regular playing time. Although it was believed that there weren’t many takers for Rojo, the report suggests that a number of clubs in Spain, Italy and France are willing to bring him on board ahead of the 2019-20 season.

Rojo is contracted with Manchester United till 2021 with the option of an additional twelve months, having signed an extension in March last year.

However, given the plethora of options at Solskjaer’s disposal his game time is likely to be restricted, although he could have been option at left-back where Luke Shaw and an ageing Ashley Young are the only resources available to the manager. It remains to be seen if he stays a Manchester United player come next season.
