Hamburger SV are on the verge of securing the services of Arsenal youngster Xavier Amaechi, who could reportedly cost around €2.5 million.
According to SportBILD, Hamburger SV are set to complete the signing of Arsenal’s academy star Xavier Amaechi. The youngster only has one year left on his current contract at the club and is unlikely to prolong his stay at the Emirates. And HSV, it seems, have already agreed a €2.5 million transfer for the young winger.
Amaechi was previously linked with a move to Bayern Munich earlier this summer. But, it seems, the 18-year-old is well aware of the Bavarians’ failures in integrating young, unproven players into the first-team. As a result, he has opted to move to HSV instead.
The Bundesliga giants are currently playing in the second division, having been relegated to the 2.Bundesliga during the 2017/18 campaign. They failed to gain promotion to the top flight last season, but new coach Dieter Hecking has already been ringing in the changes.
The ex-Wolfsburg coach notably brought in Berkay Ozcan and former Ingolstadt attacker Sonny Kittel earlier this summer. And Amaechi is set to become the latest addition to the new look HSV attack that will likely be led by Lukas Hinterseer in the upcoming season.
HSV released Marco Drawz and Arianit Ferati this summer, which could make things much easier for Amaechi in his bid to receive proper first-team football next season. He only has to compete with Khalid Narey and Jairo Samperio in the right-wing slot, but it remains to be seen whether the Red Shorts opt to do any more business within the coming weeks.
As for Arsenal, losing Amaechi won’t cause much of a dent for the academy that has managed to integrate a host of young players into the first team. The Gunners already boast the services of talented wingers like Alex Iwobi, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Reiss Nelson, who found immense success in Germany during his season-long loan spell at TSG Hoffenheim last season.
That being said, Amaechi was considered as one of Arsenal’s brightest talents and the North London will surely track the progress of the youngster, who will be hoping to emulate his compatriots in the likes of Jadon Sancho and Ademola Lookman and make a big breakthrough in the Bundesliga within the coming years.
