Manchester United are reportedly set to make a concrete offer for Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes, as they look to get the deal done at the earliest.
As per a report from Independent, Manchester United are ready to step up their interest in primary midfield transfer target Bruno Fernandes. The Red Devils are reportedly poised to launch a £50 million offer for the Sporting Lisbon captain in the coming days.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to strengthen his options in the middle of the park, having lost Ander Herrera when his contract expired. Moreover, the Norwegian is keen on addressing the lack of a creative presence in the centre, apart from Paul Pogba, who could also be on his way out of the club this summer.
This has led to the 20-time English champions getting heavily linked with Fernandes all summer. The 24-year-old had a spectacular campaign with Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon, finishing the season with an amazing return of 32 goals and 18 assists in all competitions, leading to comparisons with Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.
Fernandes also was an integral part of the Portugal national team that won the inaugural UEFA Nations League last month and has been making all the right noises over the past year. This has put him firmly on the radars of Manchester United, with manager Solskjaer pressing for his signature before the next campaign kicks off.
To that end, Manchester United were reported to have made an opening offer of £35 million for Fernandes which was knocked back right away by Sporting Lisbon as the Portuguese giants value their captain somewhere around the £70 million mark.
However, Manchester United are believed to be unwilling to match that valuation for the 24-year-old . And as per the latest report from Independent, the Red Devils are willing to go up to as much as £50 million and are soon planning to submit a formal bid to sign Fernandes. The move is said to be independent of the future of Paul Pogba with the club.
Fernandes is understood to be keen on a switch to Manchester United and the fact that interest from his other suitors, Manchester City, has cooled down in recent weeks, gives Solskjaer’s side an advantage in the race to sign the Portuguese. But, it remains to be seen if Sporting accept the £50 million bid from Manchester United or hold firm on their valuation of £70 million.
