Wantaway Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen has successfully completed a medical with La Liga giants Valencia ahead of a summer transfer.
According to a report from Spanish publication MARCA, Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen is on the verge of sealing a transfer to fellow La Liga outfit Valencia, after successfully completing his medical on Tuesday.
Cillessen has been with Barcelona for three seasons now, having arrived from Ajax back in 2016. However, the Netherlands international has had to play second-fiddle to first-choice goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen throughout his stint with the La Liga champions.
Till date, the Dutch shot-stopper has made only 32 appearances for Barcelona, 11 of which came in the 2018-19 campaign. Cillessen had grown frustrated with his situation at Camp Nou and had expressed his desire to leave this summer in search of regular football.
Cillessen is contracted with Barcelona till the summer of 2021, and is understood to have a release clause of €60 million. However, as per latest reports from MARCA, Cillessen is set to get his desired transfer away from Barcelona, with the 30-year-old closing on a summer switch to fellow La Liga side Valencia.
The report claims that the 48-time capped Netherlands international was in Valencia since Monday evening, and has successfully completed a medical with the official announcement being imminent.
An alternate report from El Mundo Deportivo claims that the arrangement between Barcelona and Valencia is that of a swap deal, which will see Cillessen join the Los Che whose current No.1 keeper Neto will end up moving to Camp Nou. Both the keepers are valued at €30 million by their respective clubs, which led to the clubs reaching a swift agreement over the transfer.
Neto has been with Valencia since two years, when he arrived from Serie A champions Juventus. The 29-year-old Brazilian has been the undisputed first-choice at the Mestalla under Marcelino, notching up 80 appearances till date. The last season saw Neto feature on 47 occasions in all competitions, in which he kept 14 clean sheets.
With Neto set to move on, Cillessen is likely to be handed the No.1 duties at Valencia, ahead of Jaume Domenech, which played a role in the Dutchman agreeing a transfer to the Mestalla. There had been significant interest in the keeper from Benfica, but it now seems like he will end up staying put in Spain.
The swap deal between Barcelona and Valencia will likely see Neto double his current wages with the La Liga champions, while Cillessen is expected to pocket the same amount as he currently earns with Barcelona. It seems like the deal is almost over the line, with the official announcements expected to be made soon.
