Barcelona and Real Madrid are reportedly chasing the signature of Fulham wonderkid Harvey Elliott, whose contract is up for expiry in the summer.

Fulham’s woes are set to be compounded after their relegation from the Premier League. While many of their key stars are set to leave the club for better abodes, The Sun report that Barcelona and Real Madrid are among a number of clubs chasing Harvey Elliott, who has rejected a new deal to stay at Fulham.

The starlet became the youngest player in the Premier League in the 2018-19 campaign, beating the record previously set by Matthew Briggs. Elliott’s Premier League debut has ensured that Fulham will be entitled to millions in compensation if any English club comes for him.

But, a foreign club will only be due to pay £200,000 or so in compensation, which has piqued the interest of Barcelona, Real Madrid and even RB Leipzig.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have been upping the ante as far as youth recruitments are concerned. The two teams are not only building a great first-team setup but have also been recruiting youngsters for their second team in order to build a good spine for the future.

Barcelona recently signed Ludovit Reis for their B team while Real Madrid confirmed the capture of Takefusa Kubo, labelled the ‘Japanese Messi’. Elliott is also regarded as a generational talent by Fulham and thus, is an ideal target for the two Spanish giants to reinforce their second team with a view to promoting the proven talents to the first-team in the future.

RB Leipzig though, might be in with a better chance, since the Bundesliga has recently proven to have a better track record as far as developing English youngsters and giving them ample first-team opportunities is concerned.

Fulham may not have Premier League football to offer. But, with Scott Parker at the helm, Elliott can rest assured he will receive considerable first-team minutes in the Championship, which has proven to be a stepping stone for many-a-young gem, the latest being former Swansea City winger Daniel James, who secured a move to Manchester United.

Fulham’s very own Ryan Sessegnon also flourished first in the Championship and is now a target for Premier League clubs. James Maddison had shined for Norwich City before securing a move to Leicester City and hit the ground running in his first season at the King Power Stadium.

Thus, Fulham might be Elliott’s best option to receive first-team opportunities while continuing to work on his craft. The decision will entirely be up to the 16-year-old now, with the winger having an offer on the table from Fulham already. Barcelona, Real Madrid and RB Leipzig though, will hope the allure of joining of a big club and top-flight football respectively can turn Elliott’s head.
