Manchester United could reportedly be set to rekindle their interest in Tottenham Hotspur left-back Danny Rose, who hinted at a possible exit this summer.

Manchester United could be set to revive their interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur and England defender Danny Rose, after he admitted that he could be leaving the North London outfit this summer, according to a report from Manchester Evening News.

Rose has established himself as one of the top left-backs in the country and has been a key part of the team that Mauricio Pochettino has built at Tottenham. The 28-year-old featured 37 times across all competitions last season, as Spurs finished fourth in the Premier League and made it to the final of the UEFA Champions League.

However, the 26-time capped England international has dropped a hint that he could be on his way out from Tottenham this summer. Speaking after England’s penalty shoot-out win over Switzerland in the UEFA Nations League third-place play-off, Rose said:

“I don’t know what the future holds now. I’m looking forward to a break. If I’m back at Tottenham next season, great, if I’m not – great. I’ll just have to wait and see. It’s not about regular first-team football. I know my age and I know how the club’s run in terms of if you get to a certain age they might look to ship you on.

“It has been no secret that my name has been mentioned quite a few times in terms of players moving on and I’ll be just sitting tight over the next few weeks and just seeing what happens. Either way I’m prepared for whatever happens.”

This revelation could put Manchester United on high-alert, according to the report from Manchester Evening News. The Red Devils had been heavily linked with a move for Rose in the past, when Jose Mourinho was in charge at the club, but no move materialized at the time.

With Luke Shaw enjoying a solid 2018-19 season, Manchester United’s need for a new left-back has lessened. Indeed the former Southampton man won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award as well as the Players’ Player of the Year award, having performed well under both Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

However, Shaw is the only out-and-out left-back in the Manchester United squad. Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian can play on the left side of the defence, but both the players are likely to be offloaded this summer, while Ashley Young has regressed rapidly in recent months, which could force the Red Devils to dip their toes in the transfer market for a new left-back.

Fulham sensation Ryan Sessegnon has emerged as a potential candidate for Manchester United. But, with Rose open to an exit this summer, the 20-time English champions might be tempted to reconsider signing him. The 28-year-old is contracted with Tottenham till 2021, but it remains to be seen where his future lies.
