Arsenal are one of many clubs interested in Jordan Veretout and have reportedly submitted an enquiry to land the Fiorentina midfielder in the summer.
French publication L’Equipe claim that Jordan Veretout might not be a Fiorentina player for long. The midfielder is courting interest from a flurry of European clubs after a couple of stellar seasons in Serie A. One of them is reportedly Arsenal, who have submitted an enquiry for the star.
While Arsenal are interested in bringing Veretout back to England, there is interest in Veretout from Serie A itself, with Napoli negotiating with Fiorentina for a while to thrash out a deal for the former Aston Villa midfielder. The likes of AS Roma and Sevilla are also keen on Veretout.
Jordan Veretout’s career has seen a sharp ascendancy in the last couple of seasons, since the player joined Fiorentina. The midfielder has quietly gained a reputation as a ball-winning creative midfielder and for being willing to do the dirty work, with Veretout accumulating 12 yellow cards in the 2018-19 Serie A itself.
Veretout must be given credit for the improvement in his numbers, with the midfielder racking up the same number of goals for Fiorentina as he did for Nantes in nearly half of the total appearances from his time with the Ligue 1 club. His improvement has caught the eye of several clubs, including Arsenal.
Aaron Ramsey has agreed to join Juventus on a free transfer, leaving a gaping hole in terms of creativity within the squad. There are rumours of Unai Emery wanting to offload Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Mesut Ozil, which would further deplete the creative options at his disposal.
While Veretout is not renowned for his creative impetus, he has shown improvement in it over the years and could perhaps, continue to improve his numbers with better teammates around him and if played in an advanced midfield position. But, the lack of Champions League football could prove to be a deterring factor.
Veretout is thought to be on the verge of the French National Team but the player himself is aware he needs to play in competitions like the Champions League to give himself a better chance of locking down a place in the National Setup. Among the clubs mentioned, only Napoli can offer him Champions League football right now.
Perhaps this is why the L’Equipe report puts Napoli in the lead for Veretout. Arsenal have submitted an enquiry but will have to hand out a persuasive package to Veretout in order to convince him to ignore the lack of Champions League football on offer at Emirates.
It is going to be a tricky summer for Arsenal, what with their budgetary restraints. Veretout is likely to be on the move after two impressive seasons at Fiorentina. But, at this point of time, Napoli seem to be the frontrunners to land the 26-year-old.
