Barcelona and Real Madrid are reportedly locked in a battle over the signature of highly-rated Cordoba youngster Andres Martin in the summer.

Spanish publication Sport have reported of brewing interest in Andres Martin’s services. The Cordoba youngster has impressed with his performances for the Liga Segunda side and has caught the attention of Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, who are set for a transfer duel in the summer for the young forward.

The report states that Barcelona and Real Madrid both intend to sign Andres Martin for their second team – Barcelona B and Real Madrid Castilla respectively. Sport further add that Cordoba would be ready to do a deal for Martin if they receive a bid of around €4 million.

19-year-old Andres Martin has been perhaps, the lone shining star for Cordoba, who have endured a disappointing campaign in La Liga 2 and have ultimately finished second from bottom on the table. Martin shined with 6 goals and 4 assists in the season, with his statistics from the centre-forward position catching everyone by surprise.

Even though Martin is a natural left winger, he produced 4 goals in just 8 games as a centre-forward, thus showing promise of being able to lead the attack if needed. His ability to play across the four attacking positions, central and out wide, has caught the attention of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Barcelona already completed one signing for their B team, with Ludovit Reis coming in from Groningen. But, Abel Ruiz is the only centre-forward in their squad right now, with Rafa Mujica leaving on a free transfer and Gabriel Novaes set to return to Sao Paulo at the end of his loan deal.

There aren’t many wide options either, with Kike Saverio and Carles Perez set to be the only two wingers going into the new campaign so far. Thus, a move for Martin makes sense, with the Cordoba youngster able to play as a winger and through the centre as well.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, have no left wingers in their Castilla squad and would need to add at least one or two options for the upcoming campaign. The report states that the hierarchy feels €4 million might be too much to spend on a Castilla signing.

But, given the promise shown by Martin, Real Madrid could engineer a move for the 19-year-old, with the Cordoba youngster having the potential to be a future first-team star, if he continues his current career trajectory.

Andres Martin would love to accept either offer, despite only reserve football on offer, with Cordoba suffering relegation. Barcelona B and Real Madrid Castilla have the upscale of better training facilities and potentially being able to make it into the first-team setup.
