Manchester United and Real Madrid have reportedly entered the race to sign Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, who is also a target for Tottenham.

Giovani Lo Celso is a man in demand in the summer transfer window. The Real Betis midfielder was already linked to the likes of Tottenham and Barcelona. And, according to Spanish publication Marca, the Argentine is now being tailed by the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid.

The report adds that Real Madrid have already established contact with Lo Celso’s camp in order to gauge the player’s intentions for the summer and beyond. Manchester United on the other hand, are contemplating a move for the Real Betis midfielder to reinforce their midfield.

Giovani Lo Celso received his footballing education at Rosaria Central before being snapped up by PSG in July, 2016. It wasn’t until December though, that he moved to Europe, with the player being loaned back for the said period to the parent club. But, after one and a half seasons at Parc des Princes, he was deemed surplus to requirements and sent on loan to Real Betis.

In La Liga, Lo Celso has been a revelation, even more so than his days at PSG. The 23-year-old recorded 9 goals and 5 assists in the league alone – 16 goals and 6 assists in total – for Real Betis, which saw the La Liga club exercise the option to make the move permanent.

The stellar campaign though, has brought forth interest from within Spain and beyond, with Barcelona, Tottenham, Real Madrid and Manchester United rumoured to be considering a move for the midfielder.

Tottenham have reportedly already made the first move, with rumours of a €60 million offer doing the rounds. Mauricio Pochettino could do with more options in midfield, especially with the club yet to replace the departed Mousa Dembele in the middle of the park.

Manchester United are set to bid Ander Herrera adieu after the Spaniard chose not to renew with the club. Paul Pogba continues to be linked with a move away from the club and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will look to bring in Lo Celso to add some much-needed creativity to the midfield along with the prospect of adding goal threats apart from the strikers to his unit.

Real Madrid are one of the clubs linked to Paul Pogba. But, Lo Celso will be a more logical target for the Spanish giants, with the midfielder already having proven himself in La Liga. The Real Betis midfielder will also cost them less compared to the astronomical figure that Manchester United are reportedly set to ask for Pogba.

Lo Celso is a proven goal threat and can turn provider when needed. The 23-year-old might be looking forward to featuring in top European competitions once again, something Real Betis will be unable to provide in 2019-20. The La Liga club will be looking to cash in at a value as close to the player’s reported €100 million release clause as possible.

With Tottenham already placing a bid and the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid entering the race, the prospect of an auction for Lo Celso looms large.
