Manchester United are reportedly ready to cut their losses on Marcos Rojo and have set an asking price of £6 million for the injury-prone defender.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Manchester United are willing to offload out-of-favour defender Marcos Rojo in the current transfer window and are demanding a lowly sum of £6 million for his sale.

Rojo joined Manchester United in the summer of 2014 in a £16 million deal from Sporting Lisbon. But, the Argentine international hasn’t been able to nail down a spot in the first-team with injuries hampering him at every step of his five-year spell at Old Trafford.

Till date, the 29-year-old has managed to make 113 appearances for the 20-time English champions, scoring two goals and setting up four more. While he had grown into a regular in Jose Mourinho’s first season in-charge in 2016-17, a cruciate ligament rupture suffered meant he lost his place in the side and has since struggled for form and fitness.

Over the past couple of seasons, Rojo has spent more time out on the treatment tables than on the pitch, featuring just 18 times across the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. In spite of his injury issues, Manchester United offered him a new contract in March last year, that runs up till the summer of 2021, with the option of an additional year.

However, the Argentine international does not feature in manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans moving forward and with Manchester United keen on strengthening their backline ahead of the next season, they are prepared to cut their losses on Rojo this summer in order to make room for the new arrivals.

There had been significant interest in Rojo’s services from Premier League side Wolves last summer, but given his injury record over the past year, it is unlikely that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side would rekindle their interest in the 29-year-old this time out.

However, the report adds that a number of clubs in Spain and Italy are willing to take a gamble on the versatile defender. And with Manchester United setting a transfer fee as low as £6 million, a move away from Old Trafford could definitely be on the cards, although his £110,000-a-week wages could be a problem.

As things stand though, Rojo’s time at Manchester United is certainly up. The only question now remaining is where the out-of-favour defender, who won the League Cup, the FA Cup and the Europa League with the Red Devils, ends up next season.
