Arsenal are reportedly interested in and have already established contact with Hoffenheim over the prospect of signing Kerem Demirbay in the summer.
German publication Bild have claimed that Arsenal and several Turkish clubs are interested in Kerem Demirbay. Arsenal are reportedly scouring the prospect of bringing the player to England in the summer on a permanent transfer and have already initiated talks regarding the same.
Metro have further clarified that Demirbay will be available for £22 million, according to the release clause embedded in his contract. Arsenal are reportedly ready to match the release clause. Considering the fact that the report says that Unai Emery will be provided a maximum budget of £75 million to reinforce the squad in the summer, Demirbay could be an ideal addition to replace Aaron Ramsey.
Ramsey chose to join Juventus on a free transfer and will leave Arsenal at the end of the season after the Gunners had rescinded their renewal offer earlier in the season on the instructions of manager Unai Emery. Demirbay has been playing as a number 10 and could be the man to replace Ramsey.
The 25-year-old has shown all the signs at Hoffenheim this season that would draw the likes of Arsenal towards him. Demirbay has 4 goals and 8 assists so far this season and has been a key player in Hoffenheim’s setup going forward. Demirbay has never ventured out of Germany, having played only for German clubs throughout his club career so far.
Arsenal have adequate midfielders in their squad but, Emery wants to add a creative advanced midfielder to fill the void that will be created by Ramsey’s departure. £22 million would not be much of a dent in their reported maximum transfer budget and would enable Emery to chop-and-change his tactics according to the need without being constrained in terms of personnel.
Hoffenheim could be prepared to lose Demirbay in the summer, only because of the release clause in his contract. The German outfit could attempt to offer Demirbay a new deal which does not include a release clause. But, Hoffenheim are currently sixth and would miss out on Champions League football.
And if Arsenal can provide that in the coming season, we could very well see Demirbay grab the opportunity to play in the premier competition and test himself in a new league, one which is labelled the most competitive and the most illustrious league in the footballing world.
