Manchester United are reportedly ready to triple Tottenham star Christian Eriksen’s wages in order to land the Real Madrid target in the summer.

The Sun have reported of Manchester United’s intent to sign Christian Eriksen. The Tottenham playmaker is reportedly also on the radar of Real Madrid. But, the Red Devils are looking to offer as much as triple his current pay at Spurs in order to woo the player towards Old Trafford.

The report states that Manchester United are ready to offer a bumper contract with basic wage of £240,000 per week to Christian Eriksen, who is currently on £80,000 per-week at Tottenham. There is just over a year left on his Spurs deal and while Tottenham will look to tie him down, Eriksen is drawing interest from United and Real Madrid.

Christian Eriksen was Tottenham’s best piece of business from the reinvestment of the Gareth Bale windfall when the Welshman was sold to Real Madrid. The Danish playmaker came in for a bargain fee of just over £10 million in 2013.

Eriksen has since repaid the transfer fee multiple folds. The 27-year-old has a return of 16 assists and 8 goals in all competitions in the 2018-19 campaign itself and has been one of the reasons Tottenham were thought to be an outsider in the Premier League title race up until their recent debacle.

Coming to the point of interest, Real Madrid could be an ideal destination for Eriksen. The Danish playmaker is a boyhood Real Madrid fan and could fill the potential gap that will be created as a result of the summer shakeup that Zinedine Zidane is planning in his second tenure as the club manager.

The report iterates though, that Zidane is set to prioritise Paul Pogba and Eden Hazard, which means there might not be budget or room left in the squad to accommodate Eriksen.

As for Manchester United, they would love to add a creative number 10 to the squad. Juan Mata could be on his way out, with his contract set to run out in the summer. And while Eriksen would be an ideal replacement for the Spaniard, his experience of playing out wide could come in handy if Solskjaer plays a natural 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3.

Paying the sort of wages the report says will not be a problem for Manchester United. But, it could be one for Tottenham, whose highest earner is Harry Kane, who recently signed a new deal that sees him pocket £200,000 per week.

United though, could have to pay a lot for Eriksen, despite the Danish international having just one year left in the summer. Daniel Levy is a tough negotiator and will not let Eriksen leave without a hefty transfer fee.

It will be up to Manchester United and Real Madrid to see where Eriksen stands on the list of priority targets set by them for the summer transfer window. Tottenham will hope the 27-year-old’s name isn’t anywhere near the top of the list.
