Manchester United are reportedly interested in DC United star Luciano Acosta and watched the player in action during the club’s 4-0 defeat to Los Angeles FC.
The Sun claim that Manchester United are interested in Luciano Acosta. The Red Devils watched the player in action as DC United succumbed to a 4-0 defeat to Los Angeles FC, with Wayne Rooney receiving an early shower for a studs-up tackle. Acosta is also on the radar of Fenerbahce and PSG.
The report adds that while Fenerbahce were rumoured to be in talks in March, PSG reportedly came close to sealing a transfer for Acosta in a January deal worth £8.5 million before pulling out.
Luciano Acosta started his journey at Boca Juniors, but gained a reputation after joining DC United in 2016 on a season-long loan, which was ultimately converted into a permanent transfer. The 2017-18 season propelled Acosta further into the limelight, with the 24-year-old boasting a return of 10 goals and 15 assists in 33 appearances in the MLS regular season.
While the 2019 campaign has not gone off to the best of starts for Acosta, with just a goal and an assist in 6 appearances, he is reportedly courting interest from Manchester United, who watched the player in action, only to see their former star Wayne Rooney being sent off in a 4-0 defeat to Los Angeles FC.
The Red Devils are set for an overhaul of sorts, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appointed as the new permanent manager. The summer will see a lot of turnover in personnel and the manager is looking for a number 10 or a creative midfielder to add to his squad, with Juan Mata no closer to signing a new deal. There have been other stars linked to Manchester United.
But, the club is pulling out all stops to prevent another failed transfer window and are scouring every potential target to ensure the players that are brought in are according to the need, irrespective of the reputation of the player. Should United decide to move for Acosta, Rooney could help their cause.
Acosta might have not impressed in the Los Angeles fixture, but the 24-year-old was reportedly happy to be watched by a club of Manchester United’s stature. As for United, they will look to see more of the Argentine to form an opinion or report for Solskjaer and the hierarchy.
