Mauricio Pochettino has eyes on Crystal Palace sensation Aaron Wan-Bissaka as part of his summer overhaul at Tottenham.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s stock has been steadily rising as the right-back is having a sensational season at Crystal Palace. The Sun are now reporting that Tottenham have entered the race for the £40 million rated full back and are ready to challenge Manchester United for his signature during the summer transfer window.
After making only a few appearances last season, Wan-Bissaka has risen to prominence this season, making 29 appearances in the Premier League alone for Palace. His rise at the right-back position has not gone unnoticed, as Manchester United are looking at him for a summer transfer as a replacement for the same position and a successor to Antonio Valencia and/or Ashley Young.
Arsenal have also shown a willingness to bring him to the Emirates as Unai Emery eyes defensive reinforcements and are thought to be ready to pay the £40 million demanded by Crystal Palace. Joining these clubs in the hunt for the England International are Tottenham, whose manager is looking at the player as part of a major overhaul the club are expected to go through in the summer.
Tottenham are believed to be considering letting at least 12 players go, including current right-backs, Serge Aurier and Kieran Trippier. England right-back, Trippier, in particular, is one of the players Spurs are unhappy with following a disastrous season. Before the current season, Trippier was named England’s player of the tournament at the summer World Cup in Russia.
Trippier also admitted to having a bad season, although his overall work for Tottenham since joining from Burnley has been exceptional, Pochettino feels, the time might be up for the right-back at the club despite Spurs sitting in third place on the table. There are many others, with as many as 12 players expected to leave the club in what is considered the most significant overhaul in recent years at Spurs.
Wan Bissaka is an ideal player for the right-back slot. At 21, he has a long future ahead of him, and in the case he joins Spurs, one of Trippier or Aurier is sure to leave in search of first-team football. Wan Bissaka is expected to fetch Palace upwards of £40 million and could be a perfect player for any of the clubs he’s linked with.
As for Spurs, they would have to fight off stiff competition for the player who not only is attracting interest within England, but German champions Bayern Munich are also very much interested. Manchester United might appeal more to Wan Bissaka, but if Tottenham shows the right ambition for the player, they just might be able to nick him to the new White Hart Lane.
