Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund are reportedly scouring the prospect of a summer bid for En Avant de Guingamp starlet Marcus Thuram.

French publication Le 10 Sport has reported that Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund are seriously considering a real offer for Marcus Thuram in the summer. The En Avant de Guingamp star, who is the son of former French international Lilian Thuram and brother of in-demand Khephren Thuram, is drawing interest from European giants.

21-year-old Marcus Thuram might be the son of a legend. But, it is his football that is doing the bidding for him, not his roots. Marcus had his first full-fledged league season in 2015-16, when he was involved in Ligue 2 for Sochaux. After another strong season under his belt, the youngster chose to move to Guingamp for a measly fee.

The forward was an instant hit for the Ligue 1 side and finished his maiden season in top-tier French football with 32 league appearances. But, the 2018-19 campaign has seen a spike in his direct contribution towards Guingamp’s cause. 7 goals and 2 assists so far, Marcus has already hit double figures for the season in all competitions combined (11 goals).

Arsenal do not have natural wide options within their squad, apart from Alex Iwobi. The Nigerian international might like playing through the middle but is the only one so far to impress in a wide role. With Aaron Ramsey departing at the end of the season and Mesut Ozil not really establishing himself as a starter under Unai Emery, there are spots available in the attacking department.

The Gunners also have to work with tight budgets, as has been the case so far for Unai Emery in the two transfer windows under the Spaniard. The Le 10 Sport report states that Marcus Thuram could be available for a low fee, especially with Guingamp favourites to be relegated from Ligue 1.

The French club will likely be unable to convince Marcus of staying put, if they cannot provide top-tier football come next season. But, Dortmund might play spoilsport to Arsenal’s hopes of landing the 21-year-old.

The Bundesliga heavyweights will see Christian Pulisic move to Chelsea in the summer and while the USMNT superstar was not really a starter anymore, the Yellow Brigade would want to replace Pulisic within the squad to maintain squad depth.

The 21-year-old will likely have a handful of choices once the season ends. But, Guingamp will hope Marcus Thuram can fire them out of the relegation zone and ensure another season in Ligue 1.
