Manchester United superstar Paul Pogba has flirted with a move to Real Madrid after confessing that linking up with Zinedine Zidane would be a dream come true.
Paul Pogba has put a question mark on his Manchester United future after admitting that a move to Real Madrid would be a dream come true. The Sun have quoted the French superstar’s admission which could put the Red Devils in a worrying spot when the summer transfer window reopens after the end of the season.
The 2018 World Cup Winner has had a stop-start season for his club after a breakdown in relationship with previous manager Jose Mourinho. Since the Portuguese’s departure and the subsequent appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as interim boss, both Manchester United and Pogba have seen a revival of fortunes which has seen them challenge for a top four place.
Manchester United also overcame a 2-0 first leg deficit to beat Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and reach the quarter-finals. All the excellent form and personal achievements along the way did prompt Pogba to admit that Solskjaer should be United’s permanent manager and backed him for the appointment.
The French star though, also confessed that a possible move to Real Madrid would be a ‘dream’, if he were to play for the Spanish giants.
The Manchester United superstar said, “Like I’ve always said, Real Madrid is a dream for anyone. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world. There is also [Zinedine] Zidane as a coach, and it’s a dream for anybody who likes football.”
Those words should have Manchester United fans worrying a bit when the summer comes in, for Real Madrid and Zinedine Zidane are planning a major overhaul at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Madrid giants have endured a torrid season which has seen them being knocked out of every knockout competition they were in and fall way behind the race for the La Liga title.
There was a sense of uncertainty with the Spanish club this season until the reappointment of Zidane, which has now placed the future of many a Premier League stars in doubt. Madrid are also heavily linked with a move for Chelsea’s Eden Hazard in the summer, and if Pogba is interested, they could make a move for the Frenchman if needed.
The midfielder has followed up his difficult early season with some good performances since Solskjaer’s arrival. Pogba has scored 14 goals and laid down 11 assists in all competitions for United. What would stand the club in good stead is the fact that recent reports had suggested that the Frenchman had no plans to leave United.
However, if Real Madrid are to make an offer, and considering Pogba’s admittance, it could be a difficult summer at Old Trafford. It now remains to be seen if the Manchester United superstar stays put at Old Trafford, or if he makes his way to the Berbabeu in the summer.
