Manchester United are reportedly interested in Wissam Ben Yedder and eyeing a potential summer move for the in-form Sevilla forward.

If the report from The Sun is to be believed, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shortlisted another potent forward to add to his squad in the upcoming transfer window. Manchester United are reportedly keen on Wissam Ben Yedder and will be looking to bring the Sevilla forward to Old Trafford.

Wissam Ben Yedder started at Saint-Denis before moving to Toulouse on a free transfer. The move to Toulouse saw him being handed his big break and he had six wonderful years at the club before being sold to Sevilla in the summer of 2016. While he grew into a more prolific role with each season at Toulouse, his tenure at Sevilla has seen him break out completely as a natural goalscorer.

Ben Yedder’s statistics for the 2018-19 campaign speak for itself, with the forward recording a whopping 26 goals and 8 assists in 42 games so far – the 28-year-old has scored 15 times in the 2018-19 La Liga campaign. In prime form, Ben Yedder is courting interest from Manchester United.

United do not have sweet memories from their recent history of facing Ben Yedder. The Frenchman was the architect behind Manchester United’s downfall against Sevilla in the 2017-18 Champions League. The 28-year-old scored a brace as United lost 2-1 on aggregate to Sevilla in the Round of 16 phase.

The report states that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has marked Ben Yedder as a target for the summer, and with good reason. For one, the 28-year-old seems to be in the best phase of his career and looks like he is hitting peak form. Secondly, Romelu Lukaku did return to form recently but was lacking finishing touch again as United lost 2-0 to Arsenal.

There were reports that Manchester United would look to cash in on Romelu Lukaku in the summer and while Paulo Dybala has been mooted as an option, Ben Yedder could be a much cheaper and realistic target for United.

It would be tough for Manchester United to convince Sevilla to let go of Ben Yedder, especially in the form that he is in right now. It would take a handsome fee but one that Solskjaer & co. are likely to be open to pay, if Sevilla do end up being more open to negotiations.
