Manchester United are reportedly set to receive a blow in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund starlet Jadon Sancho, with the winger keen on staying in Germany.
As per a report from The Sun, Manchester United’s pursuit of England international Jadon Sancho is set to come to a premature end as the teenage attacker is intent on continuing his development at current club Borussia Dortmund.
The 18-year-old Sancho, a product of the Manchester City academy, has emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in the game over the past couple of years. Having made the switch to Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017, the speedy winger has become a household name in his second season in Germany, courtesy of a series of tantalizing displays.
Sancho has featured 33 times this season for the German heavyweights in all competitions, coming up with exceptional returns of 9 goals and 14 assists. On the back of his stellar displays, he broke into the England national team towards the end of last year, since collecting three international caps, and he is in line to be selected for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers this month.
Sancho’s rise in stature over the last couple of years had led to serious interest in him from Premier League heavyweights Manchester United. Reports earlier this month claimed that the 20-time English champions were willing to break their transfer record and sanction a £100 million move for the teenager next summer.
Considering the lack of an out-and-out winger of Sancho’s ilk in the Manchester United squad, the move made sense for the club. However, they are set to be disappointed in their pursuit of the former Manchester City starlet as he is keen on continuing his stay in Germany with Dortmund, as per the report from The Sun.
Sancho, according to the report, feels settled at the Signal Iduna Park and is very happy at the club. The winger recognizes the role that Dortmund have played in his progress and does not wish to depart until and unless the German league leaders themselves decide to sell him.
Sancho is contracted with Dortmund till the summer of 2022. The three-time capped England international has established himself as an integral part of the team under Lucien Favre and they are unlikely to want to lose him ahead of next season, especially with another of their crown jewel, Christian Pulisic joining Chelsea in the summer.
It seems like Manchester United might have to look elsewhere to boost their attack in the summer transfer window, with Sancho not keen on a return to England as of now.
