Transfer News: Arsenal to resume Ever Banega pursuit in the summer transfer window

Arsenal will reportedly revisit their interest in Ever Banega and could move for the Sevilla FC star when the summer transfer window arrives.

The Mirror are claiming that Arsenal are ready to dive into the transfer market in the summer to reinforce their central midfield. Ever Banega has been one of the long-term targets for the Gunners. And according to the report, the Premier League side will reignite their interest in the Sevilla FC midfielder in the summer.

Ever Banega has had quite a footballing career till date. A product of the famous Boca Juniors setup, Banega was a quintessential central midfielder from the get-go. The 30-year-old gained reputation and stature after moving to Spain, with Valencia deciding to snap him up.

But, it was his time at Sevilla that saw him become a wanted quantity in the transfer market. Banega tasted silverware with Sevilla, who were pretty dominant in the Europa League. Back to Sevilla after a brief spell at Inter Milan, Banega continues to impress with his ability and is a key player for the club based in Seville.

And it seems one of his former mentors is interested in a reunion. Unai Emery has worked with Ever Banega at two different stages, once at Valencia when Banega was a young midfielder with flair, and then at Sevilla, where he became more of an Anchor Man or a more defensive-minded player with a matured and calming presence in midfield.

Arsenal might just need the calming presence, judging by how things are going for Unai Emery in his maiden season. First of all, reinforcements in central midfield might become necessary, what with Aaron Ramsey already agreeing a move to Juventus and Matteo Guendouzi reportedly being the subject of interest from his boyhood club PSG.

But, what is more imperative is the lack of experienced heads in central midfield, along with the fact there does not seem to be any genuine leader on the pitch for Arsenal at times. Ever Banega can solve all these problems, should the Gunners indeed opt to move for the Argentine in the summer.

Unai Emery was bound by an empty purse in January, which is unlikely to be the case in the summer. With a reported buyout clause of £17 million, the 30-year-old could just be the player to bring in some leadership and winning mentality into the dressing room.
