Manchester United are among a host of Premier League clubs that are reportedly chasing the signature of FC Porto attacker Yacine Brahimi.
Portuguese publication Correio de Manha has speculated that Yacine Brahimi could be set for a summer exit from FC Porto. The player is said to be running his contract down and is on the radar of a host of Premier League clubs like Manchester United, Wolves and Everton while Arsenal are former admirers of the forward as well.
Yacine Brahimi became hot property after the 2014 FIFA World Cup and joined FC Porto at club level in the same transfer window. The left winger has since become a key player for the club and over the near five-year association with the club, Brahimi has recorded great numbers of 50 goals and 40 assists in 199 appearances in all competitions.
The tally is great for a player who is not an out-and-out forward. It is his ability to contribute from the left wing that has generated interest in his abilities. With his contract set to expire at the end of the season and no real movement towards a renewal, Manchester United are among a host of clubs that are said to have registered an interest in the 29-year-old.
There is little logic to United going for another left winger, especially with the club already having Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez for the said position. Martial has become key to United’s fortunes but Sanchez could be on his way out, with former Arsenal and Barcelona star Marc Overmars stating that the Chilean could return to Arsenal in the future, if his disappointing displays continue at Old Trafford.
In case Sanchez does leave, Brahimi could be an excellent addition, given that Manchester United will not be paying any fees to sign the Algerian international. Also, the fact that Brahimi can play through the centre could see him become a tertiary option upfront or for cases when the manager decides to change from a lone-forward formation.
There are other suitors present, with Wolves and Everton also in the race. Wolves have great connections in Portugal and could lure Brahimi to the Molineux while Everton have long been admirers of the 29-year-old. Arsenal were formerly linked with the winger according to the report, and could be another suitor, especially with the player coming devoid of any transfer fees.
Yacine Brahimi wants a Premier League move and there are clubs ready to bring him in. The 29-year-old’s long-awaited Premier League arrival seems to be just a matter of time now, be it Manchester United, Wolves, Everton or some other club.
