Manchester United were heavily linked with a move for Ante Rebic in the summer and the Croat has now claimed that he dreams of a Premier League move.
Manchester United target Ante Rebic, who plies his trade for German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt, has revealed that he is open to a transfer to the Premier League in the future, putting the Red Devils on high alert.
Manchester United were strongly interested in signing the Croatian international in the summer transfer window, after the 25-year-old caught the eye of the club’s scouts with his impressive performances at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
However, no move materialised at the time, with Rebic staying put with the Bundesliga side. But, the forward has now claimed that he dreams of moving to the Premier League, sparking fresh transfer rumours.
As quoted by the Mirror, the 25-year-old said, “I can’t deny many clubs, some from England, expressed an interest. The Premier League is attractive and it would suit my style. I’d like to experience it.”
Rebic joined Eintracht on a season-long loan from Italian club Fiorentina back in the summer of 2016. And after an impressive first term, his loan spell was extended for another year in July 2017, with a clause inserted to make the transfer permanent this past summer.
The Croatian winger had a solid 2017-18 campaign for the German outfit, as he finished with 9 goals and 3 assists in 28 appearances across all competitions, helping Eintracht to the DFB Pokal triumph. Having made his move permanent in the summer, the 25-year-old has scored 7 times and set up 3 more goals in 14 Bundesliga games this term.
Manchester United have turned a corner under the guidance of interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Red Devils have now won all of their eight games since the Norwegian took over last month, following their 1-3 triumph at Arsenal last Friday night.
The attacking contingent that was misfiring under Jose Mourinho has been on fire of late, with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Romelu Lukaku and even Alexis Sanchez getting among the goals in recent matches.
However, the club remains keen on bolstering their ranks in the final third, especially on the flanks, where they lack a natural winger. To that end, the 20-time English champions were recently linked with a move for PSV starlet Steven Bergwijn, while they are also monitoring Rebic’s international teammate Ivan Perisic.
Manchester United’s interest is very much likely to have piqued following Rebic’s admission that he sees himself playing in the Premier League in the future. He still has over three years left on his current contract with Eintracht and it remains to be seen if the Red Devils launch a fresh attempt to sign the 25-year-old.
