Real Madrid are reportedly continuing to monitor Pablo Sarabia and are contemplating a January move for the Sevilla star.

Florentino Perez is keen to add to the options in midfield and attack in January. One of the players on the radar is former Real Madrid star Pablo Sarabia, who currently plies his trade for Sevilla. According to Spanish publication AS, Real Madrid are monitoring the player and could move for him, should they fail to land any of their preferred mega targets.

Pablo Sarabia has become a handy customer since his academy days at Real Madrid. Never really managing to break into the first-team setup, Sarabia found stability at Getafe, making a name for himself as a playmaker. But, it is his move to Sevilla that has really seen his stock rise.

The 2018-19 campaign has been a kind one for Sarabia, who boasts of a return of 15 goals and 8 assists so far in all competitions. One of the most prolific non-strikers in Spain right now, Sarabia has emerged on the radar of Barcelona and former club Real Madrid, who have continued to monitor his situation at Sevilla.

Santiago Solari’s appointment has steadied the sinking Real Madrid ship in the 2018-19 season, with the club now fourth and just seven points behind current leaders Barcelona. But, one of the casualties of the Argentine’s appointment has been Isco, who has dipped down the pecking order.

No longer a starter, Isco is being linked with a move away from the club, with an array of Premier League giants interested. The Spaniard is likely to leave despite Solari’s recent comments. Pablo Sarabia could serve as a direct replacement to Isco while also becoming an option out wide.

As far as the flanks are concerned, Marco Asensio is out with an injury, which has shrunk Solari’s sample size to just Vinicius Jr., Lucas Vazquez and Gareth Bale. The Sevilla star though, could reinforce the squad and provide an added flexibility.

Also, Sarabia is more of a playmaker and could oversee a change of shape mid-game, with Bale and Karim Benzema up-top and the Spaniard playing in the hole, similar to what Isco’s role was under Julen Lopetegui.

While Real Madrid are looking at the prospect of signing Christian Eriksen, it will be tough to convince the Tottenham star to leave Premier League mid-season. Another reason for the interest in Sarabia is the mouth-watering €18 million price tag on the player, which is a bargain considering the form he is in this season.

The arrival of an in-form player could also lift up the overall form of the squad. There is a general feeling within the Sevilla camp that Sarabia will take up the offer, should Real Madrid come in and activate the €18 million release clause. A return on the horizon for the Madrid-born star?
