Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah could leave Liverpool in disagreement, if the Reds sign an Israeli striker in the winter transfer window

As per a report in the Mirror, Liverpool could possibly sign Moanes Dabour from Redbull Salzburg FC in January. This could spell mayhem for Salah. He has allegedly threatened that he would leave Liverpool, if Dabour was signed by the Reds.

The Egyptian striker was known to avoid handshakes with the players of the Israeli team, Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2014. He dodged the prematch handshakes by pretending to tie his shoelaces when he was representing Basel FC.

However, the 26-year-old drew praise from Israelis at the high table. Former Israeli Defence Minister, Avigdor Lieberman farcely tweeted earlier this year, that he would invite Salah to the Israeli defence forces after witnessing his spectacular performance which led Liverpool to a 5-2 victory over Roma in April.

Israelis and the Arabs haven’t historically been amicable due to geo-political reasons. They have been hostile to each other in various domains, including football.

Egyptian media is strongly advocating that Salah should stop playing for any team which has links with Israelis. As a matter of fact, the Anfield has a rich history of homing Jewish players over the years, like Avi Cohen, Ronny Rosenthal and Yossi Benayoun.

Well wishers of the Egyptian athlete say that the striker should keep his head out of the politics and focus on his game. Dabour, would come in as a probable replacement for Roberto Firmino. The €15 million striker is currently the top scorer in the Austrian Bundesliga. Signing him with the shoestring budget the Reds have would be the best choice for Jurgen Klopp.

It’s highly unlikely that the Anfield side would do anything to upset their star, however Klopp’s men are on the top of the table with a sizeable margin and have a promising UCL journey ahead. They mustn’t leave any stone unturned and a backup striker is a necessity. Dabour happens to be a brilliant striker who also fits the budget for Liverpool. Seeing both the players in the same camp looks unpromising, but is probably the best outcome.
