Arsenal have been reportedly offered a chance to sign Barcelona star Denis Suarez, as they look for a replacement for Aaron Ramsey.
As per a report from the Independent, Arsenal have been offered the opportunity to land Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez in a cut-price £14 million deal, as the Spanish international seeks to leave this January in search of regular playing time.
24-year-old Suarez is in his second stint with the La Liga champions, having first spent a couple of years with the Catalans’ B team between 2013 and 2015, following which he had joined Villarreal. Having returned to Camp Nou in the summer of 2016, the Spaniard has failed to nail down a spot in Ernesto Valverde’s side.
So far in the 2018-19 season, Suarez has taken the field on just six occasions in all competitions for Barcelona, only two of which have been from the start, coming in the Catalans’ Copa Del Rey campaign. The Spaniard has managed to score two goals in the process, both of which came in the 4-1 win over Cultural Leonesa in the cup competition earlier this month.
Having grown disillusioned with his situation at the club, Suarez is believed to be keen on securing a move away from Camp Nou in search of regular first-team football. Barcelona too are open to a sale, as they see the 24-year-old as surplus to requirements, given the wealth of options they have in midfield.
In order to reach a quick resolution to the situation, Suarez’s representatives are believed to have offered their client to several major Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, in a bargain deal worth just £14 million.
Arsenal manager Unai Emery knows the 24-year-old midfielder well, having worked with him in the past, when the Spanish international spent a season away on loan at Sevilla from Barcelona in 2014-15. During that campaign, Suarez featured 46 times for his temporary club, scoring six times and setting up five more, helping Sevilla to the UEFA Europa League triumph.
Arsenal are in the market for a new central midfielder, as they seek a replacement for Aaron Ramsey, who is set to leave the club in 2019, after failing to agree a new contract with the club. And Suarez clearly has the talent and the ability to fill in the shoes of the Welshman when he leaves the Emirates Stadium.
Suarez is just 24 years of age and has his best years ahead of him. Able to play in the centre of the park or out on the flanks, his versatility offers Arsenal more options in two key areas of the field. Moreover, the Spaniard’s familiarity of having worked with Emery and succeeded would be a major plus point for the Gunners.
However, signing him isn’t going to be as straightforward for Arsenal though, as London rivals Chelsea are also keeping tabs on the Spaniard, while Serie A giants AC Milan are in the hunt for his signing as well.
At £14 million, Suarez will be a brilliant bargain, but it remains to be seen in Arsenal will go ahead with his signing or pursue alternate targets.
