Real Madrid are reportedly keen on Marcelo Brozovic, having identified the Inter Milan superstar as a potential successor to compatriot Luka Modric.
Real Madrid are reeling from an underwhelming transfer window this past summer, and are on track to make amends in the coming windows. One of the moves, as reported by Don Balon is believed to be that for Inter Milan superstar Marcelo Brozovic, who the La Liga giants think could replace an ageing Luka Modric.
Brozovic has steadily made himself a leader in Luciano Spalletti’s Inter Milan side this season and has established himself as one of the side’s mainstays. As of now, the Nerazzurri would not want to sell their star man to any club, let alone Real Madrid, although they could be tempted to do business if the offer is right from the Spanish side.
Real Madrid are reportedly ready to offload Luka Modric, just months after president Florentino Perez refused his sale to Inter Milan, suggesting his unavailability. The tide, however, has turned and Perez is now seemingly convinced the Croatian star has lost his charm on the field.
During the summer window, Modric was keen on signing for Inter Milan before eventually deciding to stay put. Since joining from Tottenham, Modric has won everything possible at club level and was bent on securing one last big contract of his career.
Since that move fell apart, Modric’s performances have dropped significantly, which has coincided with Real Madrid’s dismal start to the season. Perez now sees an opportunity in this drop in form and could use him as part of any deal to bring Brozovic to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Inter Milan value the 26-year-old Brozovic at €60 million, but Real believe this price tag could be lowered if their proposed offer includes Modric. The Nerazzurri are still considered to hold an interest in the World Cup Golden Ball winner, but are unlikely to budge on their asking price for his compatriot Brozovic.
Perez will be open to doing business in the January transfer window as well, where he can still bargain for a reasonable price for Modric. If the transfer is to stall, and Modric continues to produce sub-par performances, it could be a difficult task for Real Madrid to offload the Croat and bargain on a reasonable price for Brozovic.
As for Brozovic, Real Madrid would be a massive step up in his career, and the player should be a good fit at the Bernabeu with his tenacity in midfield. However, it remains to be seen how Perez brings down the estimated price tag that Inter Milan have placed on the Croat when they open negotiations.
