Transfer News: Jose Mourinho sets sights on Jordi Alba

Jose Mourinho is ready to put Jordi Alba’s name on top of his shopping list for next summer, and despite Barcelona considering the left-back to be very important, might be tempted to sell.

After a summer of disappointments in the transfer market, Jose Mourinho is already making plans for next June with some high profile targets already on his list. Don Balon, in their report, are suggesting that Barcelona’s Jordi Alba might be the player on top of the Portuguese’s wish list and the manager wants Manchester United to make him a priority signing next summer.

Despite having Luke Shaw and Ashley Young as their current left-backs, Jose Mourinho wants a proven player in the position. The left-back spot has been one of the problem areas for United, who have been unable to replace Patrice Evra since the Frenchman left the club. To solve the problem, Manchester United were linked with a move for Jordi Alba in the summer, although nothing materialised.

With Luke Shaw seemingly putting in some impressive displays, Mourinho still wants a player of Jordi Alba’s calibre to make United a more complete side next season. But a pursuit for the Spanish International will not be an easy one, for Barcelona in the first place would not want to sell one of their top stars. Even if they agreed, there would be huge money involved.

Jordi Alba has been one of the top performing players for Barcelona over the years, and since joining the club from Valencia, he has seemingly looked untouchable. Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi also holds Alba in high regards, and it is understood that the Argentine Superstar would advise the club, not to part company with the left-back., who has made 250 appearances for the Catalans so far.

Alba’s busting, forward runs, his ability to create chances, link up with attack and defence makes him a complete player in his position, and would attract any club right now if he is to be made available for transfer. But unfortunately, he’s somewhat considered untouchable at the club, which could prompt Barcelona to shut the door on Mourinho and United if an approach is made.

On the other hand, Alba is nearing his thirties, and if the player feels he needs to leave in search of a new challenge, then Barcelona might consider his exit. But, there still needs to be a good offer on the table. So if Manchester United really go ahead and make a move for him or someone else does is something that will have to be seen, but for now, Alba’s future will be determined by his performances this season.
