Real Madrid could be on the verge of finally replacing their former star man Cristiano Ronaldo with Paulo Dybala in a massive, €180 million deal from Juventus.
Since Cristiano Ronaldo’s surprise departure from Real Madrid earlier this summer, the Santiago Bernabeu faithful have been eagerly waiting to see whom the club lines up as the Portuguese’ replacement. Calciomercato are now reporting that an agreement is in place between Real Madrid and Juventus for the signing of Paulo Dybala for a whopping €180 million.
Madrid are in need of a bonafide superstar who could fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Juventus in a massive deal himself. However, despite huffing and puffing around the market for all this while, Real Madrid might settle for Paulo Dybala from Juventus, a move which could happen on deadline day.
Dybala has been a subject of great interest from top clubs across Spain and England since last summer. Manchester United, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona are all among those clubs who have shown an interest in the Argentine International, but now it could be Real Madrid to take the potential superstar away from Juventus finally.
Dybala, before the arrival of Ronaldo, was a bonafide starter for Juventus, but not any more. Max Allegri now has plenty of options including Ronaldo, so there are no guarantees that Dybala will start every game under the sun. That said, the Argentine was recently snubbed for a match by Allegri, which also fueled his unhappiness.
Though Dybala looks like a star player, he too has his flaws, and they have been apparent in some of his recent games for Juventus from last season. However, he remains a significant asset and player for the Turin side, but could also be dispensable if need be.
So considering the player won’t be a sure starter or a reliable leader at Juventus, especially now that Ronaldo is also there, Juve might entertain a big offer such as the report claims Real Madrid have in place for the Argentine. However, Dybala has never been the first choice replacement for Ronaldo, in fact, he is the last resort.
Real president Florentino Perez is convinced that a big name player is a necessity at Madrid, and wants to sign someone for big money before the window ends. Madrid only recently re-signed Mariano Diaz from Lyon, but Perez does not feel the player will fill the gap left by Ronaldo.
Madrid have been eying other names to replace the Portuguese, such as Chelsea’s Eden Hazard who was their top target, but eventually stayed put with the Premier League giants, probably for another season at best. Dybala was earlier considered as an alternative for Hazard, as a deal for the Belgian did not come to fruition.
He does look like someone with the potential and personality to replace a player of Ronaldo’s stature at Madrid, but at Real, there could be further competition, more intense than he experienced at Juve. In the end, it will be interesting to see what happens on deadline day of the European window, especially if Dybala is to join Real Madrid.
