Manchester United youngster Demetri Mitchell could be on his way out of the club, with Bolton Wanderers eyeing a loan deal for the Englishman.
The Daily Mail are claiming interest in Demetri Mitchell. The Manchester United academy graduate is drawing interest from Bolton Wanderers, with the Championship outfit eyeing a loan deal for the defender. The English club though, will have to compete with Hearts to land Mitchell.
Demetri Mitchell started his career as a left winger. But, his days in the under-23 side saw him being played at left-back, an area where he surprisingly impressed. His performance saw him being converted into a left-back and even making the senior grade in the last league game of the 2016-17 season.
The second half of the 2017-18 season saw him being loaned out to Scottish side Hearts. The 21-year-old made 11 appearances for them, with a knee injury curtailing his involvement to a certain extent. Despite the restricted number of appearances, Hearts seem to be impressed with Mitchell’s ability and performances.
Bolton Wanderers have signed as many as 11 signings for the 2018-19 season as the club backs Phil Parkinson in the market. While majority of the signings have been free transfers, the reinforcements will aid Bolton’s mission to achieve a better finish than 21st place in the Championship.
Despite the signings though, addition in left-back is a necessity. Andrew Taylor is the only player available at Parkinson’s disposal. Demetri Mitchell, if signed on loan, will likely act as a rotation player for Bolton, which is something that might hand Hearts the advantage.
Demetri Mitchell was a starter whenever fit during his loan spell at Hearts. And the Scottish side are likely to be ready to hand him a similar status, should he accept the loan move to Scotland.
As far as Manchester United are concerned, Mitchell is behind Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and even Matteo Darmian in the pecking order for the left-back area. United are also looking to bankroll a deadline-day move for Layvin Kurzawa, which would push him further down the order.
A loan deal will allow the 21-year-old to hone his skills in the first-team, albeit at a lower level. But, it will aid his development.
This is a deal that should be completed within the coming weeks, with the Championship clubs allowed to sign players on loan till August 31, unlike the English transfer deadline.
