Arsenal are reportedly interested in Torino attacking midfielder M’Baye Niang and are set to battle West Ham United for the Senegal international.

According to The Mirror, Arsenal have entered the race for M’Baye Niang. The Senegalese attacker had a good World Cup in Russia, which has seen the likes of West Ham and Arsenal interested in the signature of the Torino attacking midfielder.

M’Baye Niang is a product of the Caen academy in France. The player was snapped up by AC Milan in 2012 as a bright prospect for the future. The player though, has been lauded on loans, spending his seasons away from AC Milan at the likes of Montpellier, Genoa, Watford and Torino.

It is at Torino that Niang has shown glimpse of the promise his name was associated with during his nascent years at AC Milan. Despite a modest return, Niang did enough for Torino to make his stay permanent, with them buying him outright from the Rossoneri.

M’Baye Niang’s World Cup exploits though, have put him on the radar of several clubs, with Premier League duo Arsenal and West Ham emerging as potential suitors for the Senegalese star.

Arsenal have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette as able options upfront, apart from Danny Welbeck. But, the Gunners lack proper wide attackers and have already lost out to Atletico Madrid in pursuit of Gelson Martins.

This is where Niang could be of use. The 23-year-old has the ability to be deployed all across the front three, equipping Unai Emery with a viable wide player in attack.

West Ham on the other hand, have been on a spending spree to back new manager Manuel Pellegrini in the market. Felipe Anderson is the highest profile signing by the Hammers so far. But, there still exists a need to add another attacker to their squad.

The Hammers have enough options out wide but are in need of some quality upfront. Marko Arnautovic has been linked to an exit while the likes of Chicharito and Jordan Hugill do not inspire as much confidence in their profiles as at the present moment. Andy Carroll is unlikely to be of any use in the tactical style that Manuel Pellegrini is known to deploy.

In fact, if the report from Gazzetta dello Sport is to be believed, West Ham United have already lodged a bid for the 23-year-old. Arsenal are late entrants in the race for Niang and will have to act quickly if they are to beat their London rivals to the signature of the Torino attacker.

For now, West Ham are speculatively in the lead to land Niang. But, there is much left to be uncovered. It will be interesting to see if Torino knock back the bid or are open to negotiations for the 23-year-old. Arsenal though, clearly have a fair distance to catch up to.
