Transfer Rumour: Arsenal, Southampton tracking Sebastian Walukiewicz

Arsenal and Southampton are among clubs that have reportedly sent scouts to track the development of former Legia Warsaw star Sebastian Walukiewicz.

According to Polish publication Przeglad Sportowy, Sebastian Walukiewicz is a prospect that is generating quite a bit of buzz in Europe. The former Legia Warsaw star, who is currently a part of Pogon Szczecin, is drawing interest from the likes of Arsenal, Southampton and several other clubs.

Sebastian Walukiewicz emerged from the Legia Warsaw youth setup. But, the player joined Pogon Szczecin on a free transfer in lieu of a faster track to the first-team. His move bore fruit, with the player appearing in three senior league games in the 2017-18 season.

And he has started the new season bright, with the 18-year-old playing each and every minute of Pogon Szczecin’s first game in the 2018-19 Estrakalasa. His performances have been drawing quite a lot of attention from European clubs, with the likes of Arsenal, Southampton, Espanyol and Chievo all sending scouts to track the player’s displays.

Arsenal have been looking to rebuild after the departure of Arsene Wenger. The Gunners have had a good transfer window thus far, bringing in Sokratis to beef up the central defence while signing appropriate players to plug other holes within the squad.

But, central defence is an area that needs greater depth if Arsenal are to deal with the rigours of Premier League and Europa League football simultaneously. Arsenal brought in Konstantinos Mavropanos in January and should the Gunners choose to move for Walukiewicz, he will also be added to offer depth while being given all the tools to aid his development.

Southampton on the other hand, could offer a meatier role in the first-team. The Saints though, have an able central defensive guard, having recently snapped up Jannik Vestergaard in a club-record deal. Vestergaard adds to the likes of Wesley Hoedt, Jack Stephens, Maya Yoshida and Jan Bednarek to the options available to Mark Hughes at Southampton.

The likes of Espanyol and Chievo also present good projects. But, the lure of plying his trade in England could hand Arsenal and Southampton an edge. Pogon Szczecin would also be looking to rake in a considerable fee to reinvest into the squad and aid their mission to survive in the Estrakalasa.

For now, both English clubs are keeping an eye on Walukiewicz’s development by receiving regular reports from their scouts. The 18-year-old though, looks set to have a bright future and will unlikely be a Pogon Szczecin player for long.
