FC Barcelona superstar Andre Gomes has identified Tottenham Hotspur as his ideal destination as he prepares for a move away from Camp Nou this summer.

According to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, Andre Gomes is keen for a switch to the Premier League this summer following a disappointing spell with the Catalans. And Tottenham Hotspur have been identified as the ideal destination as he aims to resurrect his career next season.

It is believed that Barcelona head coach Ernesto Valverde has no plans for the Portuguese international despite the departure of Brazilian midfielder Paulinho last week. Gomes, himself, firmly believes that a move out of Barca will be the most logical choice especially after the harsh criticism he received from own his own sets of fans coupled with Valverde’s lack of trust in the former Valencia midfielder.

And the stats don’t lie either! Since joining the club back in 2016, Gomes featured in just over 2200 minutes of league action, almost 1600 of which came under former head coach Luis Enrique. Last season, in particular, the 24-year-old made only 16 appearances only two of which were complete ninety-minute matches.

Therefore, the fact that the Barcelona midfielder has been linked to a move out of Camp Nou for the past 12 months comes as no surprise. In fact, a host of top clubs around are already vying for his signature, with the list including Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs could certainly use some reinforcement in their midfield department this summer especially with Belgian superstar Mousa Dembele facing an uncertain future at the club. The 30-year-old is in the final 12 months of his current contract and a move away from North London is a likely prospect.

Additionally, Moussa Sissoko has failed to establish himself as a reliable option in midfield since moving from Newcastle while Victor Wanyama has struggled with recurring injuries in recent times. Thus, Andre Gomes is indeed a viable target for the Premier League giants.

The 24-year-old, despite failing to live up to the expectation at Barcelona, is undoubtedly one of the most talented midfielders in Portugal. He has already shown his proficiency in creating chances and circulating possession during his time with Valencia and those certain attributes is definitely well suited to Pochettino’s style of play. Furthermore, his footwork and composure in tight spaces are exceptional.

That being said, the addition of Andre Gomes might not be the most prudent move either as far as Tottenham are concerned. The former Valencia star has appeared very timid during the course of the last couple of seasons, almost as if he’s afraid to make a mistake.

In addition, his omission from the Portugal squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup clearly depicts the fact that the 24-year old’s stock is heading in the wrong direction and thus, investing in this dejected, however talented, midfielder might prove to be a huge gamble for the Lilywhites.
