FC Barcelona are ready to offer Colombian starlet Yerry Mina to a Premier League team this summer, with Tottenham marked as one of the potential destinations.

According to a report from Sun, Barcelona are willing to send Yerry Mina on loan to a Premier League this summer. The Colombian defender has impressed the onlookers of the 2018 FIFA World Cup with some exceptional performances. But, he could yet fail to make a breakthrough into the starting lineup with Barcelona lining up a move for Sevilla centre-back Clement Lenglet.

Mina, 23, will be demanding regular first-team football nonetheless and as a result of that, Barcelona are ready to send him out on loan to the English top flight. Tottenham Hotspur and Everton have appeared as potential suitors for the Colombian international.

Tottenham, in particular, will be keen to bolster their defensive department this summer and the prospect of signing Mina isn’t far-fetched. In fact, head coach Mauricio Pochettino is known to be a huge admirer of the 23-year-old. Most importantly, however, Mina is the defensive partner to Spurs’ defensive stalwart Davinson Sanchez for the national team, which could potentially play a huge role in facilitating the move.

Sanchez has been a crucial figure in Spurs’ backline in the past few months and is more than expected to be a regular starter in the upcoming season. However, the departure of Toby Alderweireld could force Tottenham’s hand on making another defensive signing this summer. The Belgian international will leave the club this summer, after failing to agree on a new contract at Tottenham. Manchester United, in particular, have shown a lot of interest in the highly rated defender.

Additionally, Spurs also lack depth in the defensive department in general. Provided Alderweireld is destined to leave the club this summer, Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez will remain the only reliable option for Pochettino in the centre-back positions with along with Eric Dier, who is quite familiar in that position. And it’s still unclear whether last summer’s signing Juan Foyth will be able to transform into a reliable option next season.

Therefore, Yerry Mina is a viable target for the Lilywhites as they attempt to pose a strong threat for the title next season. The Barcelona youngster built an impressive defensive partnership with Sanchez in this edition of the FIFA World Cup and also contributed to three goals in three matches, which remains the highest scoring tally for a defender in the coveted tournament. His 6ft 4in figure makes him an intimidating presence in both defence and offence while his physical attributes are tailor-made for Premier League football.

That being said, Tottenham could face stiff competition from Everton, who have been quite ambitious in the market ever since the appointment of Marco Silva. Furthermore, Barcelona themselves, will demand Mina to be played regularly, the chances of which are very thin should the duo of Vertonghen and Sanchez remain fit for the entirety of the season, thus altering the chances of his potential move to Spurs this summer.
