Arsenal are reportedly mulling over a summer move for FC Porto star Hector Herrera, with reports that the Mexican international will be available for £15 million.

The Mirror are speculating that Arsenal might be interested in the services of Hector Herrera. The Mexican international is currently a part of FC Porto and has been one of the better midfielders in Russia at the 2018 FIFA World Cup so far. The player is expected to be available for around £15 million.

Hector Herrera is perhaps, one of the few criminally underrated midfielders plying their trade in Europe. The Mexican international arrived at FC Porto from FC Pachuca in the summer of 2013. The star has since grown into not just a strong presence in midfield but a general and a leader.

Now captain of FC Porto, Herrera has been displaying the same leadership traits for the Mexican National Team in Russia. Herrera has played every minute of Mexico’s World Cup campaign so far and has been a rock in midfield, sweeping off the loose balls and gaining control of the midfield battle.

Arsenal have emerged as a potential suitor for Hector Herrera. The Gunners are in for a major overhaul, with the arrival of Unai Emery to oversee the transition from Wenger-ball to give a new direction to the club. The midfield has to be one of the priorities.

Jack Wilshere is set to exit Arsenal. And there’s possibility of Aaron Ramsey joining the Englishman on the way out of the club. With no real holding midfielders in the squad, Hector Herrera might just be an inspired signing. Also, the fact that he is available for £15 million is likely to see Arsenal pique their interest in him.

The aforementioned fee means signing Herrera will not be too much of a dent in the transfer budget that Arsenal have made available.

Arsenal are believed to be closing in on a deal to sign Sampdoria star Lucas Torreira in a deal worth around £26 million. But, reports from Portugal state that the Gunners are interesting in signing Herrera as well.

Arsenal will have competition, should they intend to go for the FC Porto star. West Ham United, Everton and AS Roma have all been linked to the Mexican international. But, a chance to be a starter for a team as iconic as Arsenal in a league as illustrious as the Premier League could tempt Herrera.

It will be interesting to see if Arsenal do end up moving for Herrera. The player is available at a low fee and could be a real asset to the club at least in the short-to-medium term.
