Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Roman Pavlyuchenko has advised star man Harry Kane to join Real Madrid or Barcelona, should the Spanish giants come calling.

Former Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko has urged Harry Kane to quit Spurs in a bid to further his career, in an interview with Goal.com.

Kane has established himself as one of the most lethal centre-forwards in the game currently since bursting onto the first-team scenes at Tottenham. Till date, the academy graduate has notched up a total of 140 goals for the Lilywhites in 214 appearances across all competitions and is currently sixth on the list of all-time top goal-getters for the North London outfit.

However, the 24-year old hasn’t tasted much success at Tottenham, with the club not winning any trophies since their League Cup trophy ten years ago in the 2007/08 campaign. This past season, Mauricio Pochettino’s side finished third in the Premier League and crashed out of the UEFA Champions League at the round of 16 stage, despite being in a strong position after the first leg.

Pavlyuchenko, who played alongside Kane during the early stages of the Englishman’s career, says he is extremely pleased with how far the 24-year old has come at Tottenham.

“Today, as you can see, he scores a lot of goals. Many clubs want him and for that I can only say “well done”. I look at him and see how effective he is. This pleases me, especially since I was at his side during the first steps. I am very happy for him. He is a great Tottenham player today,” the former Russia international told Goal.com.

However,  he went on to insist that if Kane wants to take the next step towards greatness in his career, he needs to join either Barcelona or Real Madrid, the latter of whom have been repeatedly linked with a move for the striker.

“If Barcelona and Real Madrid call him, then yes, he has to go, but if it’s to join a team that occupies the middle of the table in Spain or Italy, it’s not worth it. But, he must first know what he wants. It is certain that, if Barca and Real are present, then it’s normal to want to go there.”

“Tottenham is a big club, but they don’t play in the final stages of the Champions League. If he wants to go even further, he must, of course, join a bigger club.”

However, Kane doesn’t seem to echo the thoughts of his former teammate, as he has gone on to sign a new contract with Tottenham extending his stay at the North London club till the summer of 2024.

Currently on national duty with England, Kane will be captaining the Three Lions in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and hoping to lead them to glory.
