Real Madrid have reportedly agreed a €45 million deal for Rodrygo and are set to beat Barcelona to land the Santos prodigy in the summer.

Spanish publication Marca are claiming that Real Madrid have secured a deal to sign Santos prodigy Rodrygo. The Brazilian youngster has been on the radar of Real Madrid and Barcelona for a while now. But, it seems Barcelona have been beaten by their arch-rivals, who are set to snap up the 17-year-old.

Rodrygo Silva de Goes, better known as simply Rodrygo, is widely regarded as the newest sensation to emerge in Brazilian football. That the player made his senior debut for Santos at the age of 16 is a testament to the prodigious talent the 17-year-old possesses.

Rodrygo, though, even at the nascent age of 17, has managed to establish himself as a regular at Santos. His league form has been better than his showings in Copa Libertadores, with the forward recording 5 goals and 2 assists in 9 games this season. His talent and potential has inevitably caught the attention of Barcelona and Real Madrid, along with a host of top European clubs.

Real Madrid have been scouring the Latin American region for a fair while now. Los Blancos were beaten to Neymar by Barcelona and the defeat has since seen Florentino Perez spring into action, results of which were visible as Vinicius Jr. chose to sign for the European champions instead of Barcelona.

Barcelona have always had a rich history of recruiting young gems from Latin America. Their success rate in recruitment from the region has seen the Catalan giants keep a keen eye on the emerging talents in the area. Barcelona were distraught at having been beaten by Real Madrid in their pursuit of Vinicius Jr. and might have been looking to fill the void with Rodrygo.

But, according to the latest reports, Real Madrid have stolen a march on Barcelona by agreeing a deal with Santos for the 17-year-old forward. The fee is reported to be in the region of €45 million and Rodrygo is reportedly set to join the ranks at Real Madrid.

Should the transfer go through, Real Madrid will have secured two great up-and-coming talents from Brazil in Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo. Florentino Perez’s transfer policy has already seen Real Madrid sign several young players to prepare for the upcoming decade and the signing of Rodrygo will go a long way in ensuring their attack remains one of the best in the world for years to come.
