Real Madrid are reportedly plotting a bumper £120 million summer move to prise away midfield maestro Paul Pogba away from Manchester United.

The Sun are claiming that Real Madrid are looking to take advantage of the current situation surrounding Paul Pogba at Manchester United. Los Blancos are ready to shell out a massive £120 million in the summer transfer window to bring the Frenchman over to the Spanish capital.

Paul Pogba arrived at Manchester United – his homecoming – amidst much fanfare and expectations. His first season on his return was mediocre at best, despite Pogba getting his hands on some silverware – the EFL Cup and the UEFA Europa League – with the Frenchman recording a measly return of 9 goals and 5 assists in 50 games.

The second season has seen Pogba’s performance go up a gear, with the Frenchman already amassing 3 goals and 9 assists in the league alone, with just 17 Premier League appearances this season so far. But, the recent matches has seen Pogba leave the field frustrated of sorts, with many pointing the Frenchman’s inability to function well in a midfield two.

The pundits and the fans have been pointing towards playing a 4-3-3 and even Mourinho pointed that he had indeed played a 4-3-3 against Newcastle, only for his players to not be disciplined enough to honour the formation in terms of average position. But, there are rumours floating of a rift between Pogba and Mourinho, something the Portuguese has categorically denied.

Still, rumours of the rift has seen Real Madrid being linked with a summer move for Paul Pogba. Unlike Manchester United, Real Madrid already deploy a 3-man midfield and Pogba will not be burdened by the onus of defensive duties at the Bernabeu.

It is worth noting that the Manchester United man was a priority target for Real Madrid, before they chose not to match Manchester United’s offer. But, with Zidane’s men now struggling in the league, the summer could see a fair number of changes in personnel.

And if Pogba’s situation at Manchester United does not improve by the end of the season, we could see these rumours catching more wind when the transfer window reopens.

For now, it will be up to Jose Mourinho to get the best out of who is arguably the best player in his squad and one who makes the whole team tick. For, as we head into the crunch stage of the campaign, a lack of form or consistency from the key stars could see Manchester United’s season unravel quite quickly, if the manager is not careful.
