Juventus are readying a move for Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere in the summer when his contract expires, but the England International could sign a new Gunners’ deal by then.
According to the Mirror, Juventus are keen on bringing Jack Wilshere to Italy with the Arsenal star’s contract due to expire at the end of the season. Arsenal have, however, already tabled a new deal for Wilshere, although the wages on offer are less than what he earns now.
Wilshere has been associated with Arsenal since the age of nine. Has played a formidable part in the team during Arsene Wenger’s reign barring the last few seasons when he has been injured for most of the time. Wilshere rejected the idea of staying at Arsenal last season after falling down the pecking order and moved to Bournemouth on loan.
He played many games last season and this season, after Aaron Ramsey’s injury in early December has re-established his place in the Gunners’ team and convinced Arsene Wenger and the board to hand him a new deal. Wilshere will be keen to push Arsenal to Champions League places come to the end of the season as well help the team win the Europa League which would guarantee qualification to Europe’s premier club competition.
Juventus are monitoring Wilshere’s situation closely and could begin talks with his representatives if he does not agree to the new terms proposed by Arsenal. Wilshere currently earns £110,000 a week, but the new contract is offering only £90,000 but a heavily incentivised one.
The idea to lower his wages was because Wilshere hasn’t been fit in the last few years. The midfielder has endured a tough few years, with injuries has kept him out for the best part of that duration. Arsenal’s incentivised package means the midfielder could earn more if he keeps his fitness and appearances on a consistent basis.
In many quarters it is believed that the player accepts the situation and is ready to sign a new deal, even if it means taking a pay cut. Wilshere himself has reiterated his desire to stay at his boyhood club and prolong his career as a Gunner for the foreseeable future.
Juventus, on the other hand, are trying to persuade the midfielder to swap England for Italy. The Turin club could get into a pre-contract agreement according to Bosman rules, as Wilshere hasn’t yet signed his deal. In the current situation, it looks like Wilshere would stay put and sign a new deal with Arsenal, but any turn around of events could put the ball in Juventus’ court.
Juventus aside, Wilshere has courted a lot of interest from Clubs in England and abroad, including Juventus. Liverpool was interested in bringing the English star to Anfield in the summer.
