As Christian Eriksen develops more into a critical component in the Tottenham puzzle, there are more significant clubs interested in taking him from North London.

According to Transfer Market Web, Liverpool have entered the race and are showing an interest in Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen. The Merseyside could be tempted in making a move for the Danish midfielder in the summer as his long-term future remains a doubt, at least now, with Barcelona tailing the player as well.

Liverpool are reported to be the latest of big clubs showing an interest in Eriksen after he has shone in the Premier League with Tottenham on a consistent basis, season after season. Eriksen’s performances this season in the league as well the Champions league, especially against the likes of Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, have turned a few heads.

Tottenham drew 2-2 against Juventus in Turin for their first-leg round of 16 clashes and if reports are to be believed, many of Europe’s top clubs watched the creative midfielder, who must have left a good impression after scoring the equalizer for Spurs. Scouts from Barcelona and Liverpool were among those attending the game.

Barcelona were heavily linked with the Tottenham star in the summer, as they were looking for a player to replace PSG star Neymar, who left the Blaugrana in the summer. Eventually, they signed Ousmane Dembele in the summer and followed up with signing Philipe Coutinho in January, but remain interested in the Dane.

Liverpool have recently entered the picture and could make a move for Eriksen in the summer. Liverpool sold Philipe Coutinho in January to Barcelona and evidently haven’t signed a replacement for their former Brazilian. After an inactive January, Liverpool could keep an eye on his contract situation as well as the players’ desire to win trophies in the summer.

Juventus too have been credited with an interest in him and could make a summer move for Eriksen in case Tottenham fail to offer him a new deal or if the Dane refuses a new one. Tottenham have, in their current state, shown a reluctance to offer big wages to their established stars.

Tottenham have been active in the market of late, having signed Lucas Moura and were on the trail of Malcom as well. Bordeaux star Malcom could be viewed as a long-term replacement for the Dane and were heavily linked with him in the January window along with Arsenal. Due to Eriksen’s wage demands, Spurs were looking at AC Milan’s Adrien Silva too.

Tottenham signed Christian Eriksen from Ajax in 2013/14, and the Danish midfielder has been one of their best performers in all seasons ever since. On the other hand, if Tottenham continue to be eluded by silverware this season or the next, there are chances he might move to pastures new and is only turning 26 this month.

Christian Eriksen has featured for Tottenham in 211 games and scored 50 goals in the process. He has also laid out 64 assists during his time in North London. This season Eriksen has scored eight and assisted eight in 32 games across all competitions, but has been a supreme presence in attack for Tottenham.

Sooner or later, like previous Tottenham stars Luka Modric and Gareth Bale, Eriksen too might look for a new challenge. But if Tottenham are willing to pay up his wage demands in the coming months, they still could retain their star man whose contract runs out in the summer of 2020.
