Liverpool and Everton have set their sights on West Brom forward Salomon Rondon as they look to add to their squad before the January window shuts down.

According to The Sun, Liverpool and Everton are battling for Salomon Rondon’s signature before the January window concludes. The two Merseyside rivals are reported to be interested in the forward as they look to add squad depth and aim to conclude a deal before the end of the month.

West Brom’s dip in form this season has seen many of their stars linked with a move away from the club, with Jonny Evans among the more high profile players in the news. Salomon Rondon is the latest player to be linked, with Liverpool and Everton said to be keen on his signature.

Rondon has scored 23 goals in the two-and-a-half seasons he has been with West Brom, and with 18 months left on his current deal, West Brom would consider a deal for the forward if suitors come with an offer of 15 million and above.

On the other hand, there is also a case of West Brom getting relegated this season, meaning if they do, there are chances the current values of players could be depreciated as well. For instance, it was reported that if the club goes down to the second division, Jonny Evans could be available for as much as 3 million in the summer, a player the club currently value in excess of 25 million.

Liverpool and Everton have been busy for the last two transfer windows. Everton, in particular, have made huge investments in the last summer window and continued doing so in the January window with the arrivals of Turkish forward Cenk Tosun and England winger Theo Walcott.

Everton’s summer signing of Sandro Ramirez has not been successful with the forward already reported to be looking for a move back to Spain. Everton are looking at Salomon Rondon to fill this gap should the forward leave.

Liverpool were previously interested in Rondon.  This January however, Liverpool closed a record-breaking deal for Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton earlier this month. Back in the summer, Liverpool signed Dominic Solanke from Chelsea, as well as welcomed Danny Ings back from Injury.

Both strikers have failed to convince and the alarming dip in Daniel Sturridge’s form has led to Klopp looking at alternatives in the striking position. Rondon is considered as a good recruit for the Reds.

Rondon has recently been in news following the horrific injury suffered by Everton’s James McCarthy last week, as the forward, while looking to shoot the ball accidentally kicked the back of McCarthy’s leg, leading to the double leg break.

Rondon has 18 months left on his current deal, and with the club’s future in the Premier League uncertain beyond the current season, a move could be appealing for the forward, especially to one of the big English clubs.
